(Adds details, background, new death)

BAGHDAD, June 3 (Reuters) - Seven U.S. soldiers were killed in six
separate attacks across Iraq on Saturday, the U.S. military said on
Sunday, days after it recorded its deadliest monthly toll in more than
two years.

All but one of the soldiers were killed by roadside bombs, by far the
biggest killers of U.S. troops in Iraq.

Two were killed in Baghdad, one by a roadside bomb and the other by
small arms fire, and a seventh soldier was killed by a suicide bomber
while on patrol southwest of Baghdad.

A total of 127 U.S. soldiers were killed in May, the third-highest
monthly total behind November 2004, when 137 were killed, and April
the same year when another 135 died. Nine have died in the first two
days of June.

8. Stalin said that an individual death may be a tragedy but that
a million deaths is just a statistic. I'm afraid that we are rapidly moving to the point where the number of deaths in Iraq each day is just becoming a statistic.

I try to watch PBS Newshour when they show the names and faces of those who have fallen, and it is painful to watch this brief memorial to young lives cut off in this disastrous war. Each of these deaths should carry the message Out NOW.

and read the hometown newspaper stories

What you say is precisely why I started this website. They deserve to be known as real people; they deserve a moment of quiet respect from every one of us, regardless of our political leanings and opinions of their CinC and his obscenity.

If you have the time, click on the "sldeshow" link - it takes about eight minutes or so to see all 127 from May.

If you have plenty of kleenex handy, start Judy Collins' Amazing Grace at the top of the homepage and let it play while you watch.

15. it's an instant replay
with better technology

Same "strategery" - once you realize you have stumbled mindlessly into a quagmire, keep sending more kids into the quicksand in hopes of a miracle. Keep telling people there is "a light at the end of the tunnel". At least Johnson recognized he'd f'd up, even though he never really acknowledged it. And of course Nixon "inherited" VN just as the Dems will "inherit" this. Let's hope they do a better job of shutting it down.

16. Their blood is on the hands of the Democratic Congress
The Democratic Congress could have defunded the war by merely not acting on a supplemental war funding bill, letting it die without coming to a vote on the floor, a power Speaker Pelosi failed to exercise, and one which former Speaker Gingrich used to do a lot.

Sorry, we can blame Bush all we want for this war, but he didn't get to invade Iraq, and he didn't get to stay in Iraq, all by his lonesome.

The American people wanted this war to end when they enthrusted the Democrats with the majority. What did the Democratic Congress do? The word betrayal comes to mind...

21. I I don't publish the "extrapolation" early in the month
because it can swing so wildly, and is really not meaningful. That said, the extrapolation for June, based on numbers to-date, would be 186.

Although the daily rate for May was "only" a little over four, there were nine days with six or more, and eight of them came in the second half of the month.

22. If these slaughters happened in any European country day after day
there would be massive protests in the streets.

The G-8 summit alone is already being met with huge protests.

But in the U.S., the reaction is state-of-the-art hypnotic trance. I know that look. I see it every day at work.
