Bush Opens Europe Trip on Jarring Note
Source: AP

"Already complaining of being encircled by NATO's expansion, Putin said putting missile defenses on Russia's doorstep would ignite a new arms race. He threatened to retarget Russia's missiles toward Europe.

Bush says the anti-missile program is intended to protect Europe from states like Iran and North Korea, but Putin said neither country possesses the rockets the American system is intended to shoot down"
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070604/D8PI91300.html

Tensions are high between Putin, Bush and Blair.
Putin claims that there isn't any logistical reason to install missiles in Eastern Europe against a non existent threat. Iran does not have the capability to fire rockets that far. Russia feels like it is being threatened and overtaken by Nato on this.
Condi is telling Putin and Co to cool their jets on this. (that's rich)
Bush has to audacity to question Putin's anti democratic actions. Incredible.

3. what social graces will be caught on video THIS time?
Chewing with a full mouth? Got that.

Scratching his nuts in public? Blowing his nose on his sleeve? Leering at any female under 40? We're all waiting to be embarrassed yet again by this buffoon.

2. Watch Putin play Bush like a fiddle...
I wouldn't doubt if he slaps him around a bit behind closed doors, resulting in another Bush "pretzel incident" in which The Chimp tries to explain away another face of bruises and scrapes.

4. the bushistas continue to escalate world tensions
in hopes of completing PNAC's blasphemous goal of bringing about biblical prophecy (and I'm a Christian, but I'm not a warmongering fool who ignores Christ's call for loving all, and being blessed for being a peace lover).

they're sick!

I pray for their demonic ties to be broken... it is their evil that is glorifying bombs and bullets in a call for "democracy"!

7. B.I.G.C.R.A.P. is rumored to be Bush's acronym for this trip...
Edited on Mon Jun-04-07 06:51 PM by EVDebs
""AMERICAN TOURIST IN CHIEF It was pretty much guaranteed that President Bush was unlikely to be the most popular leader at the G8 summit in Germany, no matter how many backrubs he tried to give German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Factor in that Russian president Vladmir Putin says Mr. Bush’s plans to build a missile defense system in Eastern Europe would force him to target his own weapons at Europe, and we're thinking he might be leaving early.

Meanwhile, rumor has it that some officials are referring to this trip according to the acronym formed by the itinerary...

Bulgaria, Italy, Gdansk, Czech Republic, Albania and Poland.

We report... you decide.""

11. I don't get it
Locating radars and ABM batteries on NATO's eastern flank to defend against missiles fired at its southern flank doesn't make a whole lot sense to me.

14. The real reasons for a missile defense system....
Here are some real legit reasons listed below for the set up of the defense system in Europe.

1. Commercial interests: Whether the
money to be made. Some of those money-makers supported George W Bush into the White House.

Military: US Space Command states in their glossy brochure Vision for 2020: “The emerging synergy of space superiority with land, sea, and air superiority, will lead to Full Spectrum Dominance.” Star Wars, indeed.
3. Strategic and ideological: Although officially, NMD would be directed at threats from North Korea and Iran, many expert analysts believe NMD is directed at China. The Chinese may decide to increase their military budget, depleting domestic expenditure in education, technology and infrastructure – essential tools to modernisation.
Another possible US objective is to derail any Russian-Chinese partnership against US interests which could tilt the balance of power in Eurasia against the United States.
http://www.abolition2000uk.org/MD.html

China has vamped up it's space program and military capabilities, and Russia is posing more of a threat to the U.S. dominance on the global power front. I guess Bush and co think it's time to take the guns out of the holster and show who's in charge.

15. What a waste of money
Aside from being pointed in the wrong direction for their stated purpose, those ABM batteries in eastern Europe are way too close to the Russian frontier to survive a preemptive commando attack or low level air strike if the Russians decides to go nuclear.

18. Yep.
It's not as if there's a cat's chance in Hell of the missiles
doing what the PR department claims anyway ...

Just pure taxpayer cash funneled into Bush crony pockets with
an added dash of international anti-diplomacy thrown in.

All in a day's work for GWB.
