4 U.S. soldiers die in Iraq combat

Published: June 6, 2007

BAGHDAD: Four U.S. soldiers have died in combat operations in Iraq,
the U.S. military reported Wednesday, pushing the U.S. death toll
in four years of war toward 3,500.

One soldier, a member of the Multinational Division-North, died of
wounds sustained from enemy gunfire Tuesday in Diyala province,
north of Baghdad, the military said.

A second soldier also was killed in Diyala, where fighting between
Sunni Muslim insurgents and American and Iraqi government forces
has intensified in recent months as U.S. troops have been reinforced
in central Iraq for a new security crackdown.

In eastern Baghdad on Wednesday, a Multi-National Division-Baghdad
soldier was killed when a roadside bomb detonated during combat
operations, and a second soldier was wounded, the military said.

2. Your heart is supposed to break
for scooter libby. Where are your conservative values? Don't you know that those kids volunteered for duty in Iraq and besides more die in car wrecks in this country. Your priorities are all wrong.

4. We are now beyond 3500

www.icasualties.org

What's in a number anyway? This is just the number of uniformed U.S. personnel. Many mercenaries (okay, call them "contractors") have also been killed, and all of this really avoids the true culpability: we attacked a country that NEVER tried to hurt us and while on our greedy rampage we've killed well over a hundred thousand civilians. (That's a REALLY low estimate; I'm just being friendly.) Numbers are deceptive and easily dismissed; what's really ugly is the number of innocent Iraqi children who are now condemned to a life of privation and sadness as the breadwinners of their family have been killed. The maimed children are also something that should bring sadness to anyone with any soul, and there are MANY.

Lest we forget, there are somewhere around 24,000 uniformed personnel who have been seriously injured. We do forget. Without a draft, a declaration of war or any homeland sacrifices like rationing, it pretty much doesn't exist.

This is our fault. We attacked a nation that NEVER hurt us or threatened us in any way while they were supplicating themselves to the most rigorous of inspections.

Numbers are fudged, victims are ignored, the wounded are shunted aside and we collectively suck pity for our "sacrifice" as the beat goes on. Anyone who has a scrap of sense can see that we're not leaving the occupation and it's getting worse and worse. Perhaps when the Green Zone gets overrun someone might actually admit that it's untenable, despite the 112 billion barrels of oil that lay just out of our grasp.

This is not an attack on the thread originator, this is a rant against a selfish nation, ours.

9. the pile of bodies is not high enough for some definitive action
by all of us. Not to be cruel with my comment but apparently there are still many citizens out there who just don't care about the facts.

10. I guess that's it. I remember during the Viet Nam fiasco it took a lot more
before a big chunk of people were somewhat impacted. I lost 2 friends in that quagmire...I have yet to be personally affected by any of the losses in Iraq. So far.

7. not one word about the casualities on NBC Nightly News
but Jim Lehrer said something about the count, our next target should be those stations who don't say shit about the invasion, no wonder some people are walking around in a fog.

11. There has been SOME mention recently on the M$M but they seem to have a need
to include a bit of some "good" news from Iraq. There's no doubt phone calls are being made from the White House apparatchiks to network CEOs. I'd love to have a tap on their lines.

Blighters, by Siegfried Sassoon

THE House is crammed: tier beyond tier they grin
And cackle at the Show, while prancing ranks
Of harlots shrill the chorus, drunk with din;
‘We’re sure the Kaiser loves our dear old Tanks!’

I’d like to see a Tank come down the stalls,
Lurching to rag-time tunes, or ‘Home, sweet Home’,
And there’d be no more jokes in Music-halls
To mock the riddled corpses round Bapaume.

8. The pile is getting higher.....and higher

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

21. All I'm hearing on the MSM is nonsense "news" - It's quite disgusting
The "top stories" are about a missing pretty white girl and Paris Hilton. Is there still a war going on? are there casualties? what is the country of Iraq dealing with? Apparently those subjects are not newsworthy.

PBS Newshour is the only telecast that has some substance to it, and they do report on the invasion in Iraq.
