Ex-Girlfriend: I Have Nothing on Corzine

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine's former girlfriend and the leader of a state workers union said lavish post-breakup gifts she received from the Democrat weren't meant to buy her silence.

"There's absolutely nothing I have on Jon," his ex-girlfriend, Carla Katz, said in an interview with The New York Post published Wednesday.

Katz and Corzine dated from 2002 to 2004 when Corzine was a U.S. senator, and their relationship came under scrutiny because the multimillionaire Corzine gave Katz money when they broke up, just before Corzine began his gubernatorial bid.

He gave her $470,000 to pay off a home mortgage, and The New York Times recently reported that Corzine gave Katz more than $6 million in all.
