Phil Donahue Making Anti-War Feature
Source: IMDB

Former talk-show host Phil Donahue is using his own financial resources to produce a feature-length documentary, Body of War, about Tomas Young, who enlisted in the Army the day after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and was wounded in Baghdad shortly thereafter, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down. In an interview appearing in Meadow's Country Capitalist, Donohue indicated that he hopes that the film will have a theatrical release. "I've never done this before," he added. "Will it be good enough for the 'plexes and is that the best way to go? I don't now." Donohue said that he plans to give all profits to the film to Young. "This film tells the story about whom we have put in harm's way. The next time someone wants to land on an aircraft carrier, I want him to meet Tomas Young -- the real patriot. ... If anyone deserves to be heard, it's Tomas Young -- he has paid the price and we have a responsibility to listen to him."

13. If "Body Of War" makes it to my local theater
I'll be the first in line. I can't applaud Phil Donahue enough for wanting to shine a light on the human cost of war. I only hope any success this film will have may prove to provide some vindication for Donahue after the way MSNBC decided one dissenting voice against the march to war was too many.

14. " he plans to give all profits to the film to Young" Only a Liberal would be so kind.
I just love Phil Donahue! I loved watching his show that was taped in Chicago. Never missed it! Donahue's show is how Nader became so famous. Nader was on all the time with his consumer advocacy product reviews. I really miss him being on TeeVee.:(

The next time someone wants to land on an aircraft carrier, I want him to meet Tomas Young -- the real patriot. ... If anyone deserves to be heard, it's Tomas Young -- he has paid the price and we have a responsibility to listen to him."

Freakin' better believe it, Phil.

23. I LOVE PHIL DONOHUE!!!
...I'll always remember how his show was cancelled. It was during Bush's run up to invading Iraq. ...a guest on his show spoke about Cheney's Halliburton making "73 million" off of the Gulf War. Three days later the Donohue show was history due to "poor ratings".

Just like Cross Fire...as much as that show was bs, it was one of the few that gave voice to reason.

25. Ratings were fine on Phil's show. A leaked memo later showed why MSNBC fired him...
Edited on Thu Jun-07-07 10:56 PM by Liberty Belle
...It was because they were afraid he would embarrass them with anti-war talk at a time when the mood of the country was rah-rah patriotism in the lead-up to the Iraq invasion. Donahue told us this at the National Media Reform Conference in Memphis. God forbid the network should've let us hear the truth.

That's how our DFA (Democracy for America) group showed Robert Greenwald's "Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price" and "Iraq for Sale--The War Profiteers."

We book local libraries and colleges as venues . . . free of charge.
