ROME (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush will skip a visit on Saturday to Rome's historic Trastevere neighborhood for security reasons, a spokesman for the religious group he was to have visited there said on Friday.

Bush will instead meet members of the Sant' Egidio Roman Catholic community, which has been nominated several times for the Nobel peace prize, at the U.S. ambassador's residence in the Italian capital, Sant' Egidio spokesman Mario Marazziti said.

U.S.-ITALY: 'LOGISTICS' PREVENT BUSH FROM VISITING ROME DISTRICT

Rome, 8 June (AKI) - US president George W. Bush has cancelled a visit to the headquarters of a Catholic charity scheduled for Saturday because of "logistical reasons" sources at the charity said Friday. The visit at the Communita' di Sant' Egidio in Rome narrow-laned medieval Trastevere district had raised security concerns because of planned demonstrations against Bush's visit to Rome by anti-war protestors.

~snip~

The Sant' Egidio sources said they had been informed of the change of plan on Friday morning just hours before the US president was scheduled to arrive in Rome.

8. Run Forrest, run!
I guess bush won't be vacationing in Italy after he retires. At the rate he's going, he's going to be spending his retirement in a underground bunker.
