Controversial Hariri court comes into force

BEIRUT (AFP) - A controversial international court to try suspects in the murder of Lebanese ex-premier Rafiq Hariri came into force automatically on Sunday, Justice Minister Charles Rizk said.

The UN Security Council on May 30, passed a resolution setting Sunday as the date on which a 2006 agreement between the United Nations and the Beirut government to establish the court is to enter into force.

Rizk in a statement said UN resolution 1757 has a clause which automatically brings the court "into force" on Sunday.

Five members of the Security Council, including veto-wielding Russia and China, abstained from the May 30 vote, objecting to a decision that bypasses Lebanon's constitutional process

1. I don't like this. It's yet another potential war pretext.
This is just a show trial. I'm not saying there aren't real criminals somewhere, but the whole things here stinks.
