'Military plan against Iran is ready'
Source: JPost

Predicting that Iran will obtain a nuclear weapon within three years and claiming to have a strike plan in place, senior American military officers have told The Jerusalem Post they support President George W. Bush's stance to do everything necessary to stop the Islamic Republic's race for nuclear power.

...

A high-ranking American military officer told the Post that senior officers in the US armed forces had thrown their support behind Bush and believed that additional steps needed to be taken to stop Iran.

Predictions within the US military are that Bush will do what is needed to stop Teheran before he leaves office in 2009, including possibly launching a military strike against its nuclear facilities.

...

According to a high-ranking American military officer, the US Navy and Air Force would play the primary roles in any military action taken against Iran. One idea under consideration is a naval blockade designed to cut off Iran's oil exports.

The officer said that if the US government or the UN Security Council decided on this course of action, the US Navy would most probably not block the Strait of Hormuz - a step that would definitely draw an Iranian military response - but would patrol farther out and turn away tankers on their way to load oil.

1. Too bad the 'high ranking' military officers we have left are the
bottom-of-the-barrel clowns. The good ones are long gone. The crazies we have left love war. Love death. Love killing.

2. So, at what point does Bush** go onto TV and order Iran to do X, Y, and Z
within 48 hours or else face military consequences?

3. What's the new name of our country? I mean it can't be
"the United States of America" anymore - that's the old Republic's name. What will Dear Leader call our new country? The Fourth Reich has a bad PR element, don't you think? How about "Greater North America"? That's kind of catchy, and we can absorb Mexico and Canada without changing our name!

If we attack Iran the di will be cast. With our "Senior" military people "backing Bush", we are all but done, anyway...

4. Those who absolutely need to buy gas to go to work, shopping, etc...
Better start saving (if ya can afford it) NOW (if yo haven't started already).

And, for those who can afford it: a "survival kit" + "underground shelter" + etc.

Note: "underground shelter" could also be "underwater" ...

7. If this happens it will be B*shs excuse for suspending elections.
The Constitution and Bill of Rights is already out the door, the only thing we have left is our elections, stolen or not.

8. So is Iran's response to an attack
Iran will not only strike American bases if attacked, but also Israel and civilian targets in the Middle East such as crude oil fields and power plants, an Iranian admiral told US Defense News on Monday.

"The resistance will stun the US defense establishment, with dozens and even hundreds of missiles which will strike specific targets," said Admiral Ali Samhuni, security advisor to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Countries that house US bases that could be potential targets include Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain.

Army Radio quoted Iran's deputy interior minister in charge of security issues as saying that "all the American bases in the region are within the reach of our weapons."

"If the United States attacked Iran, US interests would be in danger everywhere in the world," added Muhammad Baqer Zolghadr, also a former deputy chief of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards.

17. Bush warning us that August will be a bad month...
makes me think he'll start his war in Iran when our House and Senate is on vacation.

Wouldn't it be a great political move if Pelosi said,'No vacations for our government while we have soldiers fighting in the Middle East?'.

It could stop a new war at he same time as comming off as responsible.

20. Actually it will be Lieberman threatening to hold his breath until he turns blue
if war with Iran isn't approved - so the rest of the Dems will cave in and give him his way.

19. I agree with your sarcasm....
the fact that many of the most visible, top Democrats voted against the recent war funding bill while the vast majority of Dems voted for it sounds to me like it was planned that way. They now know that the majority of Americans want us to stop waging war, but other (neoliberal) strategies take precedence.

That was why what we did to Cuba during the missle crisis was called a "quarantine" wasn't it?
