Georgia attorney general criticized for teen's case
Source: USA Today

The angry protests that followed Thurbert Baker's refusal to release an inmate serving a 10-year sentence for a consensual sex act between teens was nothing new for Georgia's attorney general.

Such rallies were common in 1999 when Baker led the charge to prosecute state Sen. Ralph David Abernathy III, son of the civil rights icon, for misappropriating state funds.

For Baker, it's simple: The law is the law.

Baker, a Democrat, is Georgia's top black elected official, but he has repeatedly found himself at odds with black leaders and his own party. He vigorously defended Georgia's voter ID law, criticized as disenfranchising poor and minority voters; critics also have complained he has done little to stop Georgia's prisons from filling up with black youths.

1. Baker is an AH! I also have to say the legislature is right there along
with him BECAUSE they didn't grandfather this law when they changed it! The ONE suggestion I heard that made SOME sense in this whole mess was Johnathan Turley when he said "Where is the Governor of Georgia on this? HE is this out of control DA's boss! Why doesn't HE intervien and tell the DA to let it go?"

I wrote to Gov. Sonny Perdue and relayed that very statement. All of you should do that as well! Especially those of you from Ga.

3. Like I said, go to the link and send him a message. My guess is that
Sonny Boy doesn't think anybody but this young man's family is paying any attention to this case. AND how many people actually realize that the Governor is this DA's boss, and could stop this insanity with a phone call, and not even have to do a pardon?

7. If this DA wasn't also black, I'd be SURE this was a typical Ga. racist
response. I have no idea WHY this DA is being such an AH on this case. I have top believe it has to do with power and perhapse aspirations for a higher office. What else could it be?

9. Maybe Because He's Controlled By Typical Jawja Racists
He was first appointed by zig-zag Zell (an acolyte of the infamous Lester Maddox no less) and he was typically voted in by the usual suspects to keep the negroes in line.

8. Well, auto-responses are standard but perhaps

he'll listen if he gets enough messages.

Everybody go write him NOW, especially if you live in Georgia, or have ever lived in Georgia. Also, give him a call if you can.

napi21 quoted Gov. Perdue's response which included this

"If this is an urgent or time-sensitive matter, please call us directly at 404-656-1776. Again, our thanks for your comments and input."

I think it's an urgent matter. The guy needs to be set free with a pardon and apology.

If every 17 year-old having consensual sex with a 15 year-old was sentenced to prison, Halliburton would never be able to build enough prisons to hold them all.
