Just another local tragedy. You might not care about this, but i live 10 miles from there and work 3 miles away. I've been seeing the news choppers flying around since before 7 this morning.

I'll update the thread as more is learned.

Just a very sad thing and thought people should know.

3. Not Rattled. Just Saddened
The receptionist here (as well as a bunch of other folks) live in that town. Talk about close to home!

4. The language used downplays this..."killed" versus murdered,
"the shooting"...The word murdered never once used in the article...just "the result of a domestic argument".
I've been noticing this a lot lately. :(

6. Nice Catch
I didn't even notice that. Maybe they think it's obvious that four people dead in a car with a gun at the scene isn't killed, like in accident-killed. Don't know.

But, that was a good verbal catch.

I just picked up a library book yesterday I spotted on the shelf "Three Boys Missing" by James A. Jack where their bodies were found near the Des Plaines River in the Forest Preserve in October of 1955. Poor family. Why?

12. Guns?
So the woman who hanged her four children and herself last week was because of rope?

17. But those four deaths were the ropes fault, right?
I find blaming an inanimate object for a crime puzzling.

18. I've never found bullets ripping through flesh as "inanimate" as you ammophiles do
Edited on Sat Jun-16-07 06:49 PM by villager
Plus, predictably, you duck the larger question: The number of deaths contributed to firearms (note the "fire" in the indicated a distinction from something "inanimate"), to, er, the "number" per year contributed to ropes...

Since you, after all, brought up the original comparison.

19. Somebody has to operate the firearm in order for it to work.
That qualifies it as inanimate. Not one death can be attributed to a firearm alone. They are committed by criminal misuse of a firearm. I'm guess it's easier to blame the gun rather than be horrified that a person would kill their own family. It isn't relevant what method was used now is it?

It's funny how you label me an "ammophile". It fits the s.o.p. and I know whats coming next.

10. Now what?
The husband is not a suspect? Then who?

Police: Ill. dad not a suspect in 4 SUV deaths
Investigators say they don’t believe anyone was involved in fatal shootings

Police questioned a man whose wife and three children were found shot to death in their sport utility vehicle but said he was not under arrest and not a suspect.

Christopher Vaughn, 32, talked to investigators for several hours after being treated at a hospital Thursday for a gunshot wound to the thigh.

Vaughn left the Illinois State Police office early Friday. He was never in custody and left “of his own free will,” State Police Master Sgt. Cheryl Lisy said. She said she had no information about the investigators’ interviews with him

11. They Think The Mom Did It
The most recent information (heard on WGN News) is the following scenario:

They pull over to fix a luggage rack. She gets out of the passenger seat and shoots him. Only wounds him. He goes running. She drives down the service road, shoots the kids (each with multiple wounds) and shoots herself.

The police have flatly stated the husband is NOT a suspect. The rest is conjecture by me and the reporters, but i don't think the cops usually say someone is not a suspect unless they're quite sure they didn't do it.

Pretty weird.

13. So how does "anyone not involved" make sense?
If the "involved anyone" was the mother. Bad writer.
