KABUL, June 15 (Reuters) - Suicide bombers attacked foreign troops in central and southern Afghanistan on Friday, killing several bystanders and wounding at least two soldiers, local police and a provincial government official said.

In the first attack, a suicide bomber rammed his car into a convoy of international troops in Tirin Kot, capital of the central province of Uruzgan, the official and police said.

"Two international soldiers were wounded and three children who were playing were killed and two adult civilians were wounded," the official, Mohammad Nabi, told Reuters by phone.

A second suicide bomber attacked a foreign troop convoy in the southern city of Kandahar, a police official said, adding that at least five civilians were wounded. He did not know if there were any troop casualties in the Kandahar attack.

2. I feel for the Dutch
peacekeepers in TK. I spent time in that town prior to the mission being handed over to the international community. We had a very small US presence there then, lots of bad guys though.

The dead all lost their lives in the first blast, which was

the town of Tirin Kot, the deputy governor of Uruzgan
province governor Mohammad Nabi told AFP.

"Nine Afghan nationals including adults and children have
been martyred," provincial police chief General Mohammad

4. Canadian convoy struck by roadside bomb
A Canadian military convoy struck an improvised explosive device in Kandahar city on Friday, military officials said.

No soldiers were injured in the early-afternoon blast, but one Afghan civilian was hurt in the incident. The convoy had entered Kandahar city returning from the Zhari and Panjwaii districts when the bomb exploded, military officials said. No other details have been disclosed.

In a separate incident, a suicide bomber attacked a foreign troop convoy, injuring five civilians on Friday.

The two incidents occurred the same day that the body of trooper Darryl Caswell returns to Canada. The 25-year-old soldier, who was a member of the Royal Canadian Dragoons of Petawawa, Ont., died Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near the vehicle he was riding in.

How do Canadians feel about our troops being in Afghanistan?

Here is how we feel:

Big majority wants Afghan mission to end on schedule in 2009: poll

OTTAWA (CP) - The vast majority of Canadians want this country's military mission in Afghanistan to end as scheduled in 2009, according to a new poll.

The survey by Decima Research, released Monday to The Canadian Press, found that two-thirds of respondents want Canadian troops to come home when the current mandate from Parliament expires in February 2009. Only 26 per cent of respondents believed the military mission should be extended "if that is necessary to complete our goals there."

The results of the poll, conducted May 31 to June 4, were released as Prime Minister Stephen Harper discussed an extension to the mission with his Dutch counterpart in Ottawa.

Harper has repeatedly hinted that Canadian troops may have to stay on in Afghanistan's troubled southern provinces beyond February 2009 in order to ensure stability.
