Shunned prison whistle-blower is rehabilitated as new top auditor
Source: Orange County Register (CA)

A prison official who was shunted aside for refusing to cover up misuse of sick leave and overtime will become the head of audits and compliance for the state corrections agency on Monday.

Richard Krupp, 57, will lead the effort to stop waste, fraud and abuse in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The promotion is more vindication for the 35-year civil servant, who received $500,000 from the state in 2004 when it settled a lawsuit he filed over whistle-blower retaliation.

"Now, I can actually help solve some of the problems," Krupp said. "This is an opportunity to help rather than just point the finger."

2. Whoever helped make this happen deserves much praise and hero status,
especially Mr. Krupp himself. Calif prisons are a huge scandal. So is our so-called "justice" system. Half the people in prison in Calif--and indeed throughout the nation--don't belong there. It is a BUSINESS. It is PROFITABLE to many people, to pack the prisons.
