Opposition leader and Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday will embark for the U.S. on a visit aimed at increasing financial sanctions against Iran to get it to drop its nuclear program.

During his visit, Netanyahu is slated to meet a New York State financial official, asking him to withdraw or freeze hundreds of millions of dollars the state pension funds have invested in Iran.

Netanyahu will then arrive in Washington where he will meet for talks on the Iranian issue with Vice President Dick Cheney, Democratic Party presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton, and Republican Party presidential hopeful Fred Thompson.

The Likud chairman was recently involved in Florida's State assembly's passing a law sanctioning investments in Iran.

1. If he wants a war so badly
he should go fight it himself. He has no right to push the U.S. into yet another insane war.

19. He may well start his own war, if he gets the chance
He isn't 'pushing the US into a war' - contrary to what some people think, he hasn't got that sort of power.

He is indeed a 'Nutty-yahoo', and if he gets to be PM, he will be the exact opposite of the diplomat they need there. But he isn't trying to get others to fight his wars for him. He'll be very happy to start his own!

23. You don't think that the US would let him do it all alone do you?
Besides ...

> contrary to what some people think, he hasn't got that sort of power.

He hasn't at home (though it gets close at times) but he *has* in the US
by virtue of the posse of proxies that are constantly interfering.

He currently controls the "casting vote" of the so-called "Democratic
Majority" so even if the debate got close enough to that fine margin
(not that it would given how similar the two parties really are) then
he-who-shall-not-be-named gets to flex his "power".

As any predatory CEO will tell you, you don't need 100%, just 51%
and he has most definitely got that.

4. Why Fred Thompson? Is he instrumental in some way to this process--
or is he a FORMER Senator? I guess Old Dickster is bringing along his boy, then.

6. Yes, I've heard that. I'm glad for any tie he has with Shooter.
However, it pisses me off that they're wasting an opportunity for, I don't know, an ACTUAL ELECTED OFFICIAL to sit and discuss Iran with Netanyahu--instead, they're trying to force an image of Freddie as some sort of "statesman" on us. Hillary is a legislator--she has a rationale for being there. Last time I checked, Thompson is a B-Grade Actor, not someone we elected to help influence ANY policy. I feel this is wrong.

10. I'd prefer not to have Nutty-yahoo meeting with people with actual power.
Maybe we can schedule him on "The View" and not have to worry so much about who he's hawking WWIII to, this time.

13. "Nutty-yahoo" .... what a great name for him!

Warmongering a**h*le!

In my faith, we don't believe in Hell; however, there ought to be one for Nutty-yahoo and Darth Cheney, in which they can roast forever!

8. WTF? Likud is in favor of doing business with Iran?
Is this where the, "You'll do business with me and receive a carpet of gold, or else we'll drop a carpet of bombs" business inducer comes into play?

9. Seems like our troops are expendable in the eyes of the rest of the world.
Or I guess our leaders are just stupid!

troops in to show their force. Our kids are nothing but cannon fodder to them.

11. Netanyahu is going to be a featured speaker at the Rev. Hagee event next month.

This page has some resources on this fanatical extreme right-wing movement.

It is likely if there are elections in Israel, Netanyahu would become the new prime minister.

14. Ah, yes, John Hagee and his ...
"Christians United for Israel;" "Christians" should be in quotes. Hagee doesn't seem to understand that Jesus wouldn't be in favor of carpet-bombing innocent children.

17. I can't believe even "Nutty-yahoo" would meet with this crackpot
He even has implied support for Yigal Amir, the assassin of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. He opposes any compromise with Palestinians. Hagee's ideology also is anti-Semitic in that he believes that the "rebellion" of the Jews caused the Holocaust, and that the Holocaust was God's way of forcing Jews to move to Israel.

The question must now be asked of Nutty-yahoo: Why does he hate Israel so much? :P

If there is anything that could make the Middle Eastern situation even worse than it is, it's Netanyahu getting involved. He's a walking disaster area.

22. Yes, Holy Joe is having wet dreams about Bibi
The Leninist part of me is thinking that the world will be better off if US attacks Iran. The consequences of such folly will dwarf the strategic disaster experienced by Napoleon and Hitler when they attack Russia. Who knows, it might even end the war in Iraq rather abruptly.

Obviously these people don't care of what happens to our troops in the middle of a Shia Iraq,

Let's get it over with!
