Kelty correctly reported loans, election board rules

Republican Fort Wayne mayoral nominee Matt Kelty correctly reported $158,000 in loans to his campaign, according to a party-line vote by the Allen County Election Board.

Allen County Clerk of Courts Therese Brown and member David Wright, both Republicans, voted to clear Kelty. Andy Downs, Democratic member, said he believed Kelty did violate the law and the matter should be investigated by a prosecutor.

Fred Rost, a campaign advisor and president of Allen County Right to Life, loaned Kelty $150,000. Kelty also received a $10,000 loan from Glenna and Steve Jehl. Glenna Jehl is Kelty’s campaign manager.

James Bopp, Kelty’s attorney, argued Kelty was correct in how he reported the loans. He said state law does not require disclosing the source of personal loans.

** KELTY BROKE THE LAW ** KELTY BROKE THE LAW ** KELTY BROKE THE LAW **

Indiana Code definition of a loan to a candidate or their campaign is considered a contribution.

Nutcase lawyer James Bopp arguing for Kelty disputes that and claims the law is vague. Bopp needs to be bopped in the head.

What does the ruling do? Unless, this goes to the prosecutor other contributors in the future may see fit to declare that their contribution is a loan thereby keeping their name out of the reporting requirements.

In effect, this is a money laundering operation to hide the true source of the contributions.

1. Board set to hear Kelty’s case
Board set to hear Kelty’s case

Up for review
Matt Kelty is the Republican nominee for mayor of Fort Wayne.

James Bopp Jr. is a national expert in campaign finance from a Terre Haute law firm. He represents Kelty and his campaign and will argue Kelty’s case before the election board.

The action
Kelty reported he personally lent his own campaign $158,000. After winning a contested primary election, he revealed the money originally came from $160,000 in loans from campaign staffers. The loans represented about 60 percent of all the money Kelty reported raising for his primary campaign.

The financiers
Fred Rost, a campaign adviser and president of Allen County Right to Life, lent Kelty $150,000 last December. The loan charged an 8 percent interest rate and required monthly payments of $26,000 from June 1 through Nov. 1. The loan and interest become immediately due if Kelty dropped out of the mayor’s race.

that Washington might be filled with crooks but it would seem most of them have migrated to Indiana. There is Daniels, Burton and Lugar with Bayh coming in a close second and so many more I can't count them. Did you see Daniels kick off campaign where he says, "Hire Me For Another Term"?
