BAGHDAD - The 24 boys found severely malnourished in a Baghdad orphanage have been moved to a different building in the same facility and are being properly cared for, Iraqi officials said Thursday.

U.S. and Iraqi soldiers found the boys last week naked in a dark room, some tied to beds and too weak to stand once they were unbound, the military said.

The director of the girls' section of the al-Hanan orphanage said the boys had been transferred to her building.

"All necessities, such as food, clothes and medical care, have been provided for them," said Karima Dawood.

4. yes and that is the irony
US soldiers rescue orphans that the US created1 How fucking sad is that? I also wonder how many cry at dead Iraqis? I hope they all come home with compassion intact.

10. The article said they were abandoned by their families.
It seemed to imply they're special needs kids who were too much of a "burden".

5. Uh, wouldn't that be the Maliki administration, not the Bush?
Just checking.

6. Who was the high ranking Iraqi official who was just here for treatment
for obesity? Talibani?

<snip>
Talibani heads to U.S.

Months after he fell ill and was taken to Jordan for treatment, Iraq's President Jalal Talabani left Iraq on Sunday for the United States for a medical check-up and to lose weight, according to a statement from his office.

There were no details about which U.S. city or medical center Talabani would receive treatment.

Talabani is the leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, one of the two main parties that controls Iraqi Kurdistan. He was accompanied on his trip by the vice president of Iraq's Kurdish region, Kossrat Rassol Ali.

During a news conference on Tuesday, Talabani announced his intention to head to the United States soon for "full medical tests and in order to lose weight."

He said his only health problem was his overweight condition.

7. Yeah, but it's the Maliki administration.
The president position there is in the same sense of the president of say, Israel - ceremonial, head of state, signing bills into laws formally, dissolving parliament when it's time for elections, etc. The PM is the chief functioning executive and the leader of the cabinet, just like Tony Blair is over in the UK (for a few more days anyway).

8. I'm not saying he was personally responsible. I am saying that its pretty
damn obvious who benefits from the occupation and who doesn't.

9. Sanctions killed lots of kids too. Lots of kids.
It's not just the occupation. Precedes the occupation by about a decade.
