U.S. soldier killed during fighting in southwestern Baghdad, military says

Published: June 22, 2007

BAGHDAD: A U.S. soldier was killed during fighting in Baghdad,
the military said Friday, raising the American death toll in Iraq
to at least 16 over the past three days.

The Multi-National Division — Baghdad soldier died Thursday during
combat operations in a southwestern section of the Iraqi capital,
according to a brief statement that provided no further details.

The military previously had announced 15 other Americans killed in
a series of attacks since Tuesday.

Identities of those killed were not released pending notification
of relatives.

The death raised to at least 3,546 members of the U.S. military
who have died since the Iraq war started in March 2003, according
to an Associated Press count.
