Lacrosse Attorneys File Motion for Criminal Charges Against Nifong
Source: WRAL

Durham — Defense attorneys for three former Duke lacrosse players have filed a motion asking a Durham judge to hold former District Attorney Mike Nifong in contempt of court.

The motion cites Nifong's alleged misconduct in court on Sept. 22 and Dec. 15 regarding potentially exculpatory evidence as well as misleading statements he made to the media regarding that evidence.

Superior Court Judge Osmond Smith, the sole judge who presided over the lacrosse case, could make a summary judgment or hold a hearing so Nifong can defend himself.

If Smith grants the motion, Nifong could face a possible fine as well as a jail sentence. Criminal contempt can carry anywhere from 30 to 90 days in jail.

This guy belongs in jail for a long time, and when he gets out he should only be able to find work in a gas station.

He still has 27 or so years of legal experience. He screwed up - bbbaaaddddlllyyy - in this case, but should his entire life be thrown away?*

*Which, OTOH, was what he was trying to do with the three men who had been charged.

4. Should his entire life be thrown away?
Yes. He is a criminal. My fondest desire is that hereafter attorneys on both sides will be more accountable, and should they stray, they will be "Nifong-ed".

5. Can he write a book?
I wonder what he is going to do. Even if he gets jail time it will only be a few months. He might try to write a book to tell his side of the story--and I suppose the proceeds will go toward paying the civil suit the boys will be bringing against him.

6. Anyone can write a book. The question is, is it going to be published,
is it going to sell, are there people who want to read it?

7. There are always vanity presses
Those publishers that will publish anything--and the author pays all of the publication costs.

9. Yes. It should.

If be "entire life" you mean his entire legal career then yes. If by "entire life" your implying that being held accountable for his criminal misconduct would amount to losing his entire life, then yes.

It wasn't an "accident." It wasn't a screw up. The evidence against him indicates that what he did was deliberate and willful - the result of caring more about his career than about fairness or justice.

I have next to no sympathy for agents of the court that so brazenly abuse their power. And what's REALLY funny about all of this, is that if the defendants had been poor black women instead of rich white men, you would never be making a post like this.

If they were poor black women, you would be screaming for Nifong to have life in prison (hyperbole to illustrate a point.) But since its that one group of people we loooooooove to hate, privileged, rich, white men - we get posts like "common...aren't we being to hard on the poor wittle guy?"

:eyes:

EDIT - I'm sorry, I posted in response to the wrong post. Should be up one level.

8. Nifong should have a TV show with Judge Larry, of Anna Nicole Smith's fame
The two of them can make wonderful asses out of themselves.

3. Couldn't have happened to a bigger scumbag
DA's aren't so popular behind bars, he might want to invest in some martial arts classes before his trip to the slammer.

11. Good for them
Get the bastard.

He didn't screw up. That implies an honest mistake. He knew what he was doing.
