U.S. Building Detainment Facility In Afghanistan

(AP) WASHINGTON The United States is helping build a prison in Afghanistan to take some prisoners now at Guantanamo Bay, but the White House said Friday it is not meant as an alternative to the detainee facility in Cuba.

The Bush administration wants to close Guantanamo Bay and move its terror suspects to prisons elsewhere and senior officials have told The Associated Press a consensus is building among the president's top advisers on how to do it.

However, a scheduled high-level Friday meeting on the matter was canceled after AP reported on it and the White House said no decision is imminent -- while repeating President Bush's stated desire to shutter Guantanamo Bay.

"America does not have any intention of being the world's jailer," White House deputy press secretary Dana Perino told reporters. She noted that the United States has announced plans to release about 80 of some 375 detainees, and hopes to transfer several dozen Afghans back to Afghanistan in the near future.

What on earth makes them think they can secure a jail in Afghanista.....oh I get it Halliburton/Blackwater/contractors will do it well try to do and, of course, need more money because nothing fixes a problem like throwing good money after bad.

Just when you thought it could get any weirder than Dick's "I am not in the government" bit yesterday.

12. White House: Afghan prison is no Gitmo
Source: AP

WASHINGTON -- The United States is helping build a prison in Afghanistan that would take some prisoners now at Guantánamo Bay, but the White House said Friday that it was not meant as an alternative to the detainee facility in Cuba.

The Bush administration wants to close Guantánamo Bay and move its terror suspects to prisons elsewhere, but says no decision about the status of the facility is imminent.

White House deputy press secretary Dana Perino said the United States has released about 80 of some 375 detainees, and hopes to transfer several dozen Afghans back to Afghanistan in the near future.

''America does not have any intention of being the world's jailer,'' Perino said, adding that the administration wants other nations to take their prisoners back, and treat them humanely, but not let them back on the battlefield.

America has EVERY INTENTION of being the world's JAILER! But as soon as the world finds out about the conditions in OUR prison system, they will close them all DOWN!

15. When GITMO closes
The announcement that GITMO will close will be made AFTER all of the prisoners have been relocated to places where torture is not a problem.
