Arrest Made in Death of Denton Activist
Source: Dallas Morning News

"11:59 AM CT A man involved in opening a premier shooting range has been arrested in connection with the death of his brother, a Denton peace activist who was found slumped over the front seat of his truck with a gunshot wound to the head, Flower Mound police said. Mark Francis Honish, 44, was taken into custody Friday morning and charged with murder."

This may be a personal/family-related killing; but I can't help but feel a bit paranoid. David Honish was a local PEACE activist with Veterans for Peace, who had worked with Denton Peace Action and attended our protests and other events.

Very sad, I wonder what the motivation was.

7. Maybe, but the firestorm of opposition to ripping out the block ...
may stop the "development" that would destroy the rest of the Fry/Hickory area -- or at least slow it down.

I heard the demolition is supposed to start this week....

I just can't imagine visiting now...all of it gone! Much of my wasted youth was lived at the Flying Tomato (before it became just "The Tomato"), the Sound Warehouse that was there in the 80s, Cool Beans, Mr. Chopsticks (best chicken and rice soup on the planet on a cold day)...

Now the Delta Lodge has been replaced, and Fry Street Fair is going away too!
What's the fucking point of being in Denton anymore, anyway?

Is Karma still there so I can get a Funky Monkey? The Cupboard? Recycled? Anyone?

9. Ahh fry street and my mis-spent youth...
lived in an apartment next door to the first ever head shop and around the corner from the diner. I worked at Flow County Hospital and went to North Texas. Best time of my life. Plenty of wonderful memories.

12. Cool!
I was there 84-87 then went back and finally finished 94-98. I was on the "hiatus plan."

6. Yeah, but this happened in Farmer's Branch:
lately famous for its anti-undocumented-worker ordinance.

not Farmer's Branch.

4. Weird. Who would have thought a GUN NUT would shoot someone? And for advocating peace?
Weird.

8. I hadn't known this about him before; but I've now learned that David campaigned against gun control
Of course, the gun nuts could have had a falling out.

Whatever else, he WAS a peace activist.

10. They both were into guns
David and Mark were both into guns and huge advocates of gun rights. Will see how the story unfolds for I know David had a lot of issues and troubles. Mark is a full time hard working man who generally goes out of his way to help people. Seems nothing good will come of this. . .

13. TRY THIS LINK: Seems like David sent his brother an e-mail
shortly before he was killed:

(snip)
On June 6, David Honish e-mailed his younger brother Mark a clear message: "You don't roar at me and wag your finger in my face EVER AGAIN IN THIS LIFETIME !" according to police records.
(snip)
(snip)
...the officer found a man slumped over the steering wheel with a gunshot wound in the face. The dead man was David Honish, a 52-year-old peace activist from Denton. Next to him was a printout of the e-mail exchange with his 44-year-old brother, police said.

Sounds a lot like a falling-out to me.
