Christie (Whitman) blasts Rudy on WTC air
Edited on Sat Jun-23-07 05:35 AM by kskiska
Source: NY Daily News

In an upcoming interview with WNBC-TV, former head of the EPA Christie Whitman says former Mayor Rudy Giuliani blocked her efforts to force WTC workers to wear repirators.

Former Environmental Protection Agency boss Christie Whitman says she urged Ground Zero workers to wear respirators, but then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani blocked her efforts.

She also said city officials didn't want EPA workers wearing haz-mat suits because they "didn't want this image of a city falling apart."

In an interview scheduled to run the day before Whitman testifies in front of Congress on Monday, she told WNBC-TV she warned the city of the risks almost every day.

And she said she believes illnesses killing first responders can be blamed on the city's lack of action.

"I'm not a scientist ... but I do ," she told WNBC's Brian Thompson.

12. Wake up, guys. The Republican party promotes "yes" men, not civil servants.
They select ambitious people who know that the key to getting ahead, is to be a "team" player. Tenet lasted as long as he did because he was willing to lick George Bush's balls, and he is shocked, SHOCKED, that it wasn't enough to get that blanket protection from the GOP Machine. Obviously, Christie learned that that blanket protection from the GOP Machine, is like a blanket shared on a cheap motel bed which has far too many people on it. At some point when the lights are off and you fall asleep, someone will roll on the other side and pull the blanket off you. So, she's exposed and lashing out.

Guys, do you have any doubt in your mind that if Christie had done her job, that Rudy would have whined because she destroyed his photo opportunity and George Bush would have lost his bull horn moment?

This does not seem to help Rudy much does it. Makes you wonder if Karl and the boys are not pushing to get somebody else elected on the Republic ticket? Not that I am suspicious of anything political in this country.

6. I guess for Rudy, image is everything
Even Bush wanted the area around the WTC to be reopened quickly so it would give the appearance of coming back quickly, minimal damage, showing American resolve etc....

15. Gee whiz Christie ...
do you think,

as head of the ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY

that just maybe you SHOULD have opened your mouth and neutered Rudy when it WOULD have saved some lives.

PS. All's well that ends well is for your soul to judge, Christie. There is no reason to doubt that your soul will be fair. Say hi to Rudy if you get my drift.

"We are very encouraged that the results from our monitoring of air quality and drinking water conditions in both New York and near the Pentagon show that the public in these areas is not being exposed to excessive levels of asbestos or other harmful substances," Whitman said. "Given the scope of the tragedy from last week, I am glad to reassure the people of New York and Washington, D.C. that their air is safe to breath and their water is safe to drink," she added.

22. thank you! I love this part: "EPA's primary concern is...
Edited on Sat Jun-23-07 09:45 AM by wordpix
to ensure that rescue workers and the public are not exposed to elevated levels of asbestos, acidic gases or other contaminants from the debris. Sampling of ambient air quality found either no asbestos or very low levels of asbestos. Sampling of bulk materials and dust found generally low levels of asbestos.

The levels of lead, asbestos and volatile organic compounds in air samples taken on Tuesday in Brooklyn, downwind from the World Trade Center site, were not detectable or not of concern.

"We are working closely with rescue crews to ensure that all appropriate precautions are taken. We will continue to monitor closely." snip

Low/undetectable levels of air pollutants downwind in Brooklyn---how about at Ground Zero? BushEPA doesn't say a word about that.

29. the Police Dept was forced to refuse donations of better air masks for PR reasons...
Cops were pissed about it. They knew the offers were there and that the refusal was completely political. Unfortunately many felt honor bound to help, they have been sadly exploited.

25. No wonder they don't want National Health Care....
The image to protect is/was more important than workers' health. If they'd do this with 9/11 aftermath workers, very high profile, then what about the rest of the citizenry, with less media exposure, going about their daily work.

32. Conscience bothering you a wee bit Christie?
Jiminy Cricket singing in your ear?

I never understood how she towed that line after 9-11, and I say this as someone who knows dozens of people who work in lower Manhattan. Hell, I worked down there on John Street for years. She certainly didn't need the money.

I'm glad she's calling out the "Saint of 9-11" who really is the biggest whore on the planet. but really Christie, it would have been a lot better if you had done it at the beginning and maybe prevented a lot of the death & illness & suffering that will surely be coming more frequently in years to come.

Pass off the issue to someone else. Refuse to take any responsibility for anything wrong that happened.

And as for that fuck, Giuliani, 9/11 is the greatest cash cow ever. He's trying to exploit the day all the way to the WH and the media is willing to give him a free ride.

Fuck them both. It's too bad neither will suffer what the rescue workers and others in the area did. Same goes with others in this administration.
