10 U.S. troops die in Iraq

Parliament to cut recess by half; members deny bowing to pressure by Washington to address sectarian tensions.

By Julian E. Barnes and Raheem Salman, Times Staff Writers
10:13 PM PDT, June 23, 2007

The deaths of 10 U.S. troops Saturday in Iraq, seven in roadside bomb attacks, brought to 30 the week's toll for American military personnel.

The deaths came as Iraq's parliament agreed to cut its summer holiday in half, and some said a deal had been reached on a proposal for sharing the country's oil wealth.

Both legislative developments were small signs that the government of Prime Minister Nouri Maliki was creeping toward meeting White House demands to show political progress and stem violence that continues to claim Iraqi and U.S. lives.

The parliament had been scheduled to recess for July and August. Iraqi lawmakers denied that their decision to continue working through the end of July was in response to pressure from Washington and said they were trying to make progress on legislation. Some U.S. leaders, including Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, recently have visited Baghdad, the capital, to urge lawmakers not to take a summer recess.

1. police dragged the body of one of the militants through the streets, then hung it from a telephone p

This kind of treatment of a body by law officers should be condemned by the US (militant or not)!

........The British also reported one military death.

The attacks brought the U.S. military death toll since the March 2003 invasion to 3,557, according to icasualties.org, an independent website that tracks the deaths in the Iraq theater.

In Baghdad, police reported finding 15 bodies, all presumed victims of sectarian violence.

In Hillah, 60 miles south of the capital, police said a car bombing killed four people and injured 18.

Hospital officials in Samarra, 60 miles north of Baghdad, reported that five civilians were killed in clashes between police officers and militants. Residents also reported that after the clash, police dragged the body of one of the militants through the streets, then hung it from a telephone pole.

6. Son of a bitch! How many more? How many more have to die for
this fucking wet dream of Bush and Cheney's? How many more have to die before Congress and the majority of Americans rise up with one voice and say, "ENOUGH!!!!!!"?

While Congress plays the "I'm so scared of Bush and Cheney" game, while the Iraqi Parliament tries to out-do Dumbya on the length of a single vacation, while the majority of the American people, even if they are pissed at or tired of this war but still sit on their asses watching "reality TV", how many more have to die?

How many more American men and women?

How many more Iraqi's?

How. Many. More???????

When in the fuck is enough, enough????

The elected officials here are scared of their own shadows when it comes to this war. The majority of Americans are lulled into a stupor by American Idol and similar dreck that drenches the airwaves. The Iraqi "government" is a fucking sham (but then, so is ours).

And in the meantime, more real blood is shed.

More real human beings are wounded or killed.

When is enough, enough?

I'm so fucking tired of this, of death and destruction, just so Bush can prove his dick (with a small "d") is bigger than Daddy's, and the big Dick can rake in even more money.

How many more?????

7. Certain right-wingers don't believe anyone should ever lower the flag for these people.
Edited on Sun Jun-24-07 04:57 AM by Judi Lynn
They are not "higher officials," after all, like prestigious Republican Chicken Hawks, who joined Champagne Brigades, and hid out from even THAT meager service to their country, during the draft.

Yeah, no one should pay much attention to the deaths of mere American soldiers, according to our administration: the least said, the better, in their view.

10 killed on one Saturday: it does seem to be climbing all the time.

their view of the war, they have done more than all the Republican Chicken Hawks tied together have done. And they deserve to have the kind of respect shown by the lowering of the flag. Hell, the flag should have been lowered the moment "Shock and Awe" began, and stay at half mast until this nightmare ends.

Oh, and don't forget; no one should pay ANY attention to the Iraqi's who have been mained and killed. After all, they are "just Iraqi's. Just brown skinned people who dress funny. They don't matter a bit. It's only the rich, elitist, Republican Chicken Hawks who ran from Vietnam with their fucking tails between their legs, who now strut around like they personally lead the charge at the Beach at Normandy who are important, right? :sarcasm:

12. At Least 30 Americans Killed In Iraq
At Least 30 Americans Killed In Iraq
Most Of Deaths Come From Roadside Bombs

POSTED: 8:43 am EDT June 24, 2007

BAGHDAD -- Roadside bombers killed seven U.S. troops in one day, four of them in a single blast near Baghdad, and three other soldiers died of other causes - raising to at least 30 the number of American soldiers killed this week.

Explosions aimed at U.S. patrols that kill several troops at once are common, but the recent frequency of such large-scale attacks may signal militants are using larger bombs or explosively formed penetrators, known as EFPs, as they fight back against a series of U.S. military operations.

The military has staged a series of counterattacks this week on roadside bomb factories and insurgent strongholds where stockpiles of explosives have been uncovered.

U.S. forces using tips from Iraqi informants raided a safe house before dawn on Saturday and detained three militants with suspected of ties to Iran, the military said. The operation in Sadr City, Baghdad's main Shiite enclave, was the latest in a series of raids on targets where militiamen are believed to have ties to Iran.

18. Boston Globe Sunday Edition Front Page
TOP LEFT: Making of Mitt Romney. A huge puff piece about the ex-governor now running for president, one of who's campaign themes is running against the state. It includes the sub title: "Touched by tragedy, a leader emerges from a life of privilege".

TOP RIGHT: Sides to talk settlement in tunnel death. The harbor tunnel collapse (under the watchful eye of mittens of course) that killed a native avoids court. At least there is local content.

MID LEFT: Well that would still be the mittens puff piece.
MID RIGHT: The horrors of illegal immigration over the VT border!

BOTTOM LEFT: A local (Boston) story about the new school superintendent.
BOTTOM RIGHT: A big advertisement for Gillette posing as a news story: Looking to clean up in Japan. (Gillette continues to manufacture in Mass.)

PAGE 7: 7 US Soldiers Die In Iraq.

I suppose that if it were 14 US soldiers dead, it would have been relegated to page 14.

And the Globe is considered to be a 'liberal' paper.

20. At this rate, we'll double the deaths in a year
But who knows what the near-term dynamic will REALLY be. Now that we're coming out of our hidey-holes and actually mounting offensive operations, there'll surely be more casualties.

What a mess.
