Militant Students Capture Masseuses to Make a Point
Source: NYT

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, June 24 — Dressed from head to toe in an all-enveloping black burka, Umm-e-Okasha joined a pack of students from her militant Islamic school on Friday night, and at midnight they drove to a massage parlor here in the Pakistani capital and rang the bell.

“There were about 25 Chinese women, dressed only in underpants and bras,” recalled Ms. Okasha, 24, a muscular high-school badminton champion who had shed her black garb for soft mauves, her face uncovered, during an interview inside the women-only confines of the school. “They scattered, but we managed to grab five.”

The vigilantes, including students from an affiliated school for men, shoved the skimpily clad Chinese masseuses into a car, gave them shawls for modesty and hauled them back to the school as hostages, she said.

Under pressure from Pakistan’s government, concerned about maintaining its friendly relations with China, the school released the Chinese masseuses on Saturday afternoon, less than 24 hours later...

1. I don't get these dumbasses.
Don't they have bigger things to worry about than a massage parlor? How many of them have visited there discreetly and requested "the special", I wonder.

3. Controlling sex and women's sexuality is always a concern...
for religious extremists. Actually, our societies have been controlling women for years. In major religions, sex is often seen as evil or wrong.

4. My WW2 veteran grandfather told me back in 2001 that being allies with Pakistan was a bad idea!
We would have been better off becoming allies with India. Which has made a hell of a lot more in commiting to democracy than Pakistan ever did.

5. Giving the wingnuts here ideas
That is, if they could tear themselves from Faux Noise long enough. Come to think of it, nah, there's nothing to worry about.

6. Maybe they could have some afterschool fun and play "stone the whore"
The "hookers" were probably slaves without any choice. It's not as if they could run away on the streets of Pakistan in their panties.

7. Musharraf is the only on standing between Pakistan
and a theocracy led by their version of the Taliban and they have the bomb.

Musharraf is under a lot of pressure there. He's basically the mayor of the big cities. The countryside is already out of his control.

Our State Department is oblivious.

9. Pakistan. They have about a dozen A-Bombs.
And Musharraf is holding on by the most slender of threads.

10. I took in the "The Mighty
Heart" yesterday (read the book a long time ago). The supreme complicatedness of our relations w/Pakistan (and Pakistan's with India) was evident thoughout the many subplots of a very well done piece of cinema, IMO.

Your post is in the top tier re combo of brief and focused depiction concerning the shaky house of cards barely keeping Pakistan from going outta control.
