Scholars urge Bush to ban use of torture
Source: Associated Press

President Bush was presented with a letter Monday signed by 50 high school seniors in the Presidential Scholars program urging a halt to "violations of the human rights" of terror suspects held by the United States.

The White House said Bush had not expected the letter but took a moment to read it and talk with a young woman who handed it to him.

"The president enjoyed a visit with the students, accepted the letter and upon reading it let the student know that the United States does not torture and that we value human rights," deputy press secretary Dana Perino said.

The students had been invited to the East Room to hear the president speak about his effort to win congressional reauthorization of his education law known as No Child Left Behind.

6. "We do not want America to represent torture."
Can you believe we have reached a point where someone even has to write those words?

May our future be with these wise students and not the power-mad, arrogant outfit that has hijacked our government.

9. Quick on his feet still
"The president enjoyed a visit with the students, accepted the letter and upon reading it let the student know that the United States does not torture and that we value human rights," deputy press secretary Dana Perino said.

I wonder if he said this because the United States uses other countries and contractors to do our torturing for us. So to him this actually isn't a lie.

12. Yes, Cheney uses it too: "We don't torture."
Indeed, it is done in the black hole prisons, not here on U.S. soil.

8. The nerve of these uppity kids....
And you asked why the ex-preme court wanna put limits on their speech?

Not one of them bowed down to kiss the hem of his garment.

These kids are a good example for the need of right wing style home schooling.

14. Shame on Bush for lying to a high school student!!!
"The president enjoyed a visit with the students, accepted the letter and upon reading it let the student know that the United States does not torture and that we value human rights," deputy press secretary Dana Perino said.

What a crock of shit!!!! Those students have more integrity and morality in their little fingers than Bush has in his whole body.

15. Would you say that this is "unprecedented"?
It seems that every aspect of this president's behavior and actions has the word "unprecedented" attached to it.

....even if everyone in the bush administration unanimously stated, 'the United States does not torture', who in the world would believe them?

20. what he really wanted to do was fling the letter down, stomp on it ...
... and then order the students flown out of the country to some illicit prison overseas. He was probably fuming about this all day.

Bravo to them, for speaking truth to power! They deserve to be in the White House, not him!

22. So they go all the way to Washington to meet the pResident, and get to see him lying in person!
We've gone from the first President, "I cannot tell a lie," to the pResident, "I've never told the truth!"

I hope they all will get a terrific photo to commemorate the event, take with them the image of the nation's top official lying his ass off about crimes against humanity, and make a promise to themselves to never live a pointless life, and become someone sane people abhor.
