Conditions in Iraq ‘terrifying’, says U.N. envoy
Source: Azzaman

U.N. special envoy to Iraq Ashraf Qadhi depicted a gloomy picture of conditions in the country despite the ongoing U.S. and Iraqi military operations to reinstate some semblance of stability.

In an interview, Qadhi said the situation in Iraq was so ‘worrying’ and ‘terrifying’ that many countries in the world feared the current violence there might go far beyond neighboring countries if not contained.

“Conditions in Iraq are a matter of concern for the U.N.,” he said, adding that there was great potential for the current violence to spread far beyond Iraqi borders.

...

He said senior U.N. officials intend to present U.S. congress with reports detailing “the large-scale of killings and genocide and massive human rights violations.”

Qadhi said the U.N. would urge Congress to take “a decisive action” against such practices.

Dying children among Palestinians trapped in Iraqi border camps: UNHCR

Geneva (ANTARA News) - Children in need of urgent medical care were among more than 1,400 Palestinian refugees still stranded on the Iraqi-Syrian border after fleeing Baghdad, the UN refugee agency UNHCR said Tuesday.

Two children needed cancer treatment, one young man was about to lose a leg because of a blood disorder, and another needed lifesaving surgery for a hole in his heart, UNHCR medical teams found on a visit to the al-Waleed camp.

Canada was the only country so far to have responded to appeals to accept the refugees, none of whom felt they could return to Baghdad.

"We seem to be a voice in the wilderness that nobody is listening to," said UNHCR spokeswoman Jennifer Pagonis. "Conditions for these refugees are deteriorating by the day."

7. The White Houses responce...
the prez* said today, "well, what, um, er we have to define, say, is that terrifying, I mean, let me finish, what is terrifying? the sudden awakening to the fact that you slept with ann caulter? or the moment you realize that you just at a bug? perspective people, the, er um, UN does, doesn't understand that this is a WAR and war is terrifying because it's being run by terrorists, and what is the tool of terrorists? it's to terrify and I would say that the UN envoy is enabling the terrorists by saying this is um...scary...terrifying. Why won't the UN see that we are successful? We are fighting them over there so we don't have to here, now that is terrifying."

14. The presence of our troops is fueling the violence
It is a reinforcing loop of violence because our troops are there leading to our troops pressing harder resulting in more violence.
We must withdraw our troops and seek a diplomatic solution.
