Bush Calls Immigration Bill "Amnesty"
Source: ABCNews

ABC News' Rick Klein reports: President Bush has spent a whole lot of time in recent months claiming that the immigration bill isn't "amnesty."

But in describing the measure Tuesday morning, an apparent slip of the tongue suggested otherwise -- providing fodder for the talk-radio crowd that loathes the bill and wants it defeated in the Senate.

"You know, I've heard all the rhetoric -- you've heard it, too -- about how this is amnesty. Amnesty means that you've got to pay a price for having been here illegally, and this bill does that," Bush said, according to the official White House transcript.

1. Then his minions shouldn't blame Democrats next time this fails.
Not that they won't.

8. What they care about their wages being lowered? I am so suprised
that they care. I thought they wanted to make everyone very poor and have a small rich minority on top. More workers equal a surplus and lower wages. Gee they figured that part out.

14. They're opposed for different reasons
Some would call it racism, and clearly, there's some of that over there. But they don't want to pay for what they consider social welfare benefits (including elementary education) for the the newly legalized residents.

There is a fairness issue to consider, also. Someone who has applied for, and patiently waited for paperwork to be processed, will have that paperwork stuck in an organization that will be flooded with new applications under this bill. I've lurked over there, and seen that discussed, too.

6. Amnesty or not, the bill sucks. It's should be called the Indentured Servitude Act of 2007
And the Senate is about to hold the cloture vote within the hour.

but I don't think anyone who has followed this disastrous legislation has any doubts that the commander guy has been lying through his teeth about amnesty.

12. The comments are priceless
The majority of them claim to have voted for Bush twice, but now are against him. Many claim that they voted for Bush a second time, because he would be better than either Gore or Kerry, who would both have been a disaster.
And to quote one of these geniuses..." I am an immigrant, and I see Bush as a trader, an evil trecherous, treasonous trader. Impeach him now."

So now, Bush is a "trader". These die-hard conservatives are so pathetic, aren't they? Some of them claim that they mostly still support Bush, because he rescued the economy from the Clinton/Gore recession. They truly live in another universe.

15. IdiotBoy aka Chimpy McFuckwad slips again in showing his ignorance of language and word definition
Edited on Tue Jun-26-07 01:37 PM by Whoa_Nelly
Amnesty, on a governmental level, is a pardon given to a large group of individuals.

It does NOT include fees.

BUT, according to MealyMouth Malkin:
Amnesty is a general pardon from the government for law-breaking. It’s against the law to cross our borders or overstay visas without permission. It’s against the law to avoid deportation once you’ve been ordered to leave. It’s against the law to re-enter if you’ve ever been deported. And it’s against the law to recruit, hire, harbor or encourage those lawbreakers.

What else do you call a bill that grants any illegal immigrant who has been in the U.S. for five or more years an immediate path to American citizenship?

This is amnesty and it does not depend on what the meaning of “is” is.
http://michellemalkin.com/2006/04/06/the-definition-of-amnesty-2/

:::sigh::: Another dittohead has spoken for and supported the stupidity of IdiotBoy, as well as confirming beyond a shadow of doubt that making language and word definition change is the exclusive right of the GOP/PNAC/BushCo Inc. Regime. :sarcasm:

16. Incidents like this just confirm that he is simply a puppet trying hard to regurgitate the lines
without fucking up, and he is so stupid and so ill-informed, he doesn't even realize he has fucked himself and has to have a spokesman come in a day later and bullshit it.

Really a scary situation for our country to have such a tool 'in charge'.

20. isn't rule #1 of partisan politics "play to your base"?
How the hell did anybody --even a die-hard republican -- vote for this guy?

He has the political instincts of Charlie Brown trying to kick a football.

I can’t figure out if he’s dishonest or just ignorant.

My fear is that he might be both.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Significant punishements”, my ass.
:::::
The man is sick and suffering from some utopian form of globalism. If you took his title away, you would never know he is the President of the United States. No way.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The man is sick and suffering

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He is a liar and a unscrupulous one at that.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wish I knew why he is pushing this. It makes me sick. Our President is taking sides with Ted Kennedy against the American people.

This is not what I voted for in 2004.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

President Bush is accomplishing in one fell stroke what the MSM and Teddy Kennedy's of the world have been attempting for years, the destruction of the Republican Party. When guys like me refuse to donate a dime to the RNC and rip BUsh bumper stickers off my cars, the RNC has a big problem.
I can only imagine the celebrations that will take place at Teddy's place if this bill ever passes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can’t figure out if he’s dishonest or just ignorant. My fear is that he might be both.
He is indeed. But his mental deficiency isn't just due to just ignorance.

He's a bit short on watts as well.

Combine that with his near fanatical transnationalist outlook and we've got ourselves quite a problem.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I’ve heard all the rhetoric — you’ve heard it, too — about how this is amnesty. Amnesty means that you’ve got to pay a price for having been here illegally, and this bill does that."
Bush to USA: "F*CK YOU, I'LL DO WHAT I DAMNED WELL PLEASE!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Impeach Bush. Get Chaney in there.
