Bush Holds Israel Up As Model for Iraq
Source: Associated Press

(06-28) 11:16 PDT Newport, R.I. (AP) --

President Bush held up Israel as a model for defining success in Iraq, saying Thursday that the goal of the U.S. mission there is not eliminating attacks but enabling a democracy that can function despite continuing violence.

--
There, Bush said, "Terrorists have taken innocent human life for years in suicide attacks. The difference is that Israel is a functioning democracy and it's not prevented from carrying out its responsibilities. And that's a good indicator of success that we're looking for in Iraq."

--
It was likely to be controversial — and possibly even explosive — for Bush to set out Israel as a model for a Muslim Middle Eastern nation. Israel has been locked for decades in an intractable dispute with Palestinians in the neighboring occupied territories, a conflict that is viewed as a major recruiting tool for Islamic extremist groups like al-Qaida.

8. The fence has been empty for a long long time
From the beginning Muslims felt the U.S. wanted to use the Israeli model in Iraq. Occupying as long as they wish while not listening to anyone else about stopping it.

At least the U.S. isn't paying its citizens to go live in Iraq to create facts on the ground around oil reserves. I guess the admin doesn't feel they have to.

6. Bush has no idea what he's talking about
In order for Iraq to become like Israel, the Sunnis would have to get pushed out into a separate area or made into refugees to flood neighboring countries.

That's going to go over real big. As in a big explosion of attacks.

Ya. That must be it.

When will "responsible people" finally remove this appalling weasel before the entire world blows up in fumes BECAUSE OF HIS APPALLING (and criminal...) STUPIDITY??

Edit: can't type straight (shaking-fingers rage).

As if Israel is the ideal goal for a muslim arab state. damn. Think about how much of our money goes to Israel and how much of our problems are caused by our involvement. Be careful what you wish for Bush, you just might get it.

If you gave him a world map and told him to point to the middle east, he would be lucky to get the continent right.

Stupid, lazy, incompetent loser. An embarrassment that we will have to live with forever.

36. Israel is more of a democracy than the US...
So why do all you folks get so worked up, when it is OUR country, the United States of American, which in NO WAY is threatened by neighboring states that wish to destroy it, invading Iraq and murdering HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of innocent civlians ?

Just because Bushitler refers to Israel in a positive light does not prove that the lunatics who are blow up it's coffee shops, markets, and night clubs, are lovely people.

Just as many Jews were displaced at the time of the re-creation of the State of Israel as Arabs; however, those Jews got a life and got a job, and have moved on.

It is time for those who lament the loss of their olive groves to recognize they have no right to even the score by blowing up innocent human beings.
