Gore spokesperson denies latest 2008 rumor in Asian newspaper
Source: Raw Story

A spokesperson for former Vice President Al Gore denied rumors in an Asian newspaper about the Oscar-winner's presidential plans in 2008.

"He is heavily booked with work and engagements through the Fall," said Kalee Kreider, a spokesperson for Al Gore, when contacted via e-mail by RAW STORY. "His position on 2008 has not changed."

Gore, who won an Oscar this year for his global warming-centered documentary An Inconvenient Truth, was said in a Taiwanese newspaper to have canceled all events for the next six months in preparation for a presidential run next year.

"Former US vice president Al Gore will not be able to make it to Taiwan this September to address the issue of global warming, Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Tien Chiu-chin said yesterday," according to an item in the Taipei Times. Tien, who invited Gore to visit Taiwan to promote awareness on global warming, told reporters yesterday that she received an e-mail from the Harry Walker Agency, which has the exclusive right to arrange Gore's speeches, saying that Gore had canceled all his scheduled events in the next six months. The visit to Taiwan had been postponed to next year, she added. Tien said the reason for the cancelation was that Gore was considering a presidential bid."

note, his position "has not changed." that's an easy way to divert attention without directly stating his plan.

1. I figured as much...
And I'm sure the Conservative blogs were loving this, just like those constantly pushing him that think of nothing else. I knew it was BS, but then I don't think Al Gore is a liar like some people do.

6. He May Well Have Been Telling the Truth When He Said He Wasn't Running, But…
…I sure hope he has changed his mind. Nobody else can beat the Repiglicans next year.
Yes, the people have said they want a Democrat in the White House, but they don't want
any of THESE Democrats. There is absolutely no way any candidate could recover from
the horribly high negatives Hillary Clinton is getting in the polls — and certainly not with
the Mighty Slime Machine working overtime to drive those negatives even higher.

WE NEED YOU AL! PLEASE! RUN! GORE 2008!

10. Sorry, I am not looking at this political campaign now...
As most important in my life. As a matter of fact, I'm not even thinking of it now. After the last seven years I have already seen that people on the whole don't seem to give much of a damn about where this country is headed enough to do what must be done, so I reserve the right to be cynical on that score until I see something change regarding the unwillingness of Americans on the whole to really stand up to it... and that won't happen until people are informed and inspired to seek knowledge and demand that change. That's what Al Gore and others are now doing and there is nothing more important to me right now because that enlightenment on an enmasse scale can bring great change politically and has in the past.

However, in a system where people for the most part were informed, not distracted, engaged in reasonable debate over hype, and appreciative of his vision and efforts, I might agree. But that isn't going to happen by 2008. I personally believe that whoever gets appointed as the next Chairman (or Chairwoman) of the military industrial complex won't get much done because they will be spending most of their time trying to keep their finger in the dyke after the last seven plus years of abuse by the current "occupants" and their enablers in both parties... Unless of course they too become tempted by the unitary executive powers that will not be rescinded by then depending on how much more damage is allowed which will leave our Constitution in a crumpled heap. I really then don't see much changing in the next four years regardless of who is there because of that system...at least unless we change first.

That is why I believe Mr. Gore is on the right track now and will be remembered as a great man who did something to shake the conscience of this planet that far surpasses any president. How could anyone not see that he has the best of both worlds now? He has the clout to influence political events and the freedom to bring social issues into the public debate without any handlers or restrictions. And that is exactly what we need now in order to turn the tide politically in this country.

Surely, if I were to see the people in this country awaken in the next few years and come around to that reason (which would mean they would have to turn their remotes off unless they watch Current tv
;-) ,) and a system not beholding to corporate control from our votes to everything we do, I would more than gladly support his political aspirations if he had any, and actually would now because I support him, but I really don't think it would be as effective now in the very same system that he excoriated in his book. And as he also stated, it is going to take more than one election to change the decades of brainwashing this populace has been subject to.

He has done and continues to do so much to make such a difference in the debate on the climate crisis from out here and it is starting to see results. Hopefully, Live Earth will be the start of an even bigger awakening of moral conscience, and that is really what it is all about now. Just look at Current and the success it has had.

The medium is the message is how the saying goes, so changing that medium to democratize it in order to then see that truth and reason reenter the public dialogue is the main challenge we now face, and personally, I cannot think of a more fitting statesman and environmental advocate than Mr. Gore to represent us in that endeavor as we join him in his. As for the political end of it, perhaps we will one day see the government we deserve when WE work hard enough to deserve it.

12. They Only Need ONE More Justice on the Supreme Court and then They Have it All
Sorry, I am not looking at this political campaign now as most important in my life.

Then perhaps you should examine the makeup of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Four justices totally willing to tear up the Constitution for the Bushistas.
If the Repigilicans win, they will certainly get to appoint at least one more.
If they do, it's all over for the Constitution and democracy in the USA.

After the last seven years I have already seen that people on the whole don't seem to give much of a damn about where this country is headed enough to do what must be done

And what is that?
Take to the streets? We have been doing that. The Repiglickin' media has rendered our protests all but invisible.
Vote? We have been doing that too, in greater numbers than ever. Our votes have been stolen.
Strike? They'll send our jobs to China even faster.
Boycott? People here tend to blame "the corporations" as if every business in America were equally culpable. That makes boycotts kind of hard to organize.
Properly targeted, boycotts may be the most powerful weapon we have. Many people are boycotting Walmart now, and it's working. Walmart is having one miserable quarter after another.

I reserve the right to be cynical on that score until I see something change regarding the unwillingness of Americans on the whole to really stand up to it.

We have never had anything like this happen to our country before and I don't think we have any idea how to stand up to it.

17. And who handed the USSC to them on a SILVER PLATTER?
Edited on Sat Jun-30-07 08:40 AM by RestoreGore
And they already have it all or weren't you paying attention to their ruling this week? And they can now make many more rulings between now and the next 'election' (which I am sure will be rigged to some point again) and they will still be 'justices' able to vote no matter who is in the WH in 2008. THE DAMAGE IS ALREADY DONE and it was the representatives WE THOUGHT CARED ABOUT THIS COUNTRY including Democrats that brought this upon us. So who is to say that these Democrats wouldn't just push through any nominee again like they did Roberts and Alito?

Shouldn't we then be more concerned on working to assure that the Senate and House has a REAL Democratic majority in 2008 then in order to push back ANY nominee that would compromise the court even more? A Democratic president won't assure anything if there is a Republican majority in the Senate. And really, even now they seem to be able to obstruct the Democrats even though they supposedly have a "majority" now. So can we believe that party is even sure proof regarding this anymore based on what we have seen out of Democrats in actually approving of Roberts and Alito? And to say the American people have no idea how to stand up to it is very telling and sad. So in turn then, you are saying they don't want to learn either, they just want a savior so they don't have to deal with it.

Well, I'm sorry, that is not what Democracy is all about. We either stand or we fall, and no "savior" regardless of who he or she is can lead us out of this unless we as a whole are willing to do out part as well. And that is EXACTLY the premise of Al Gore's The Assault On Reason, and actually, An Inconvenient Truth. So yes, stolen votes, media complicity, corruption... all part of a system brought about by citizen complacency that again is not going to be cured enough in several months regardless of who leads the charge. So why should Mr. Gore spin his wheels in a system where he would have to expend his energy, time, and money simply to see the same results? I have yet to see concrete proof it would be worth his taking on besides pointless cheerleading here.

WE have to break ths complicit media, get our votes back, and show we really do care about the rule of law. I sure haven't seen that happening on a massive scale in this country yet. And we have had something like this happen before, and we did deal with it. I just think people today on the whole are too distracted with their blackberrys and their Iphones and their reality TV to give a damn and think Al Gore or whoever is going to save them so they don't have to leave their distractions to do what has been done in the past. Buy hey, if you can refute that, please do.

23. How Do We Do This?
Edited on Sat Jun-30-07 01:35 PM by AndyTiedye
And they already have it all or weren't you paying attention to their ruling this week?

It is possible that it is too late already. I was trying to be optimistic (not easy these days).

That was my point as well. If the Repiglickin's hang onto the White House they WILL be able to put whomever they want on the Supreme Court.
We need to win the White House next year, and Al Gore is the only Democrat who can win.

How many would that take, if the Repiglicans retain control of the Presidency and the NSA blackmail machine, and the ability to have anyone who gets in their way Wellstoned?

And to say the American people have no idea how to stand up to it is very telling and sad.

Do you?

So in turn then, you are saying they don't want to learn either,

It will take time. Possibly a lot of time depending on what it is you want us to learn, and what means you have available to communicate it.

they just want a savior so they don't have to deal with it.

I'm not expecting a savior. But we do need to get the Repiglickin's out of the White House, and none of our current "frontrunners" will be able to do that.

Well, I'm sorry, that is not what Democracy is all about. We either stand or we fall,

What you say above leads to the conclusion that we have already fallen.

So yes, stolen votes, media complicity, corruption... all part of a system brought about by citizen complacency

How were we supposed to have prevented this?

WE have to break ths complicit media, get our votes back, and show we really do care about the rule of law.

How???

we have had something like this happen before, and we did deal with it.

We had a free press in those days, and solid majorities in Congress. Not anymore.
If Watergate happened today they would have gotten away with it.
This regime has commited 1000 Watergates, at least, and they have gotten away with it so far.

I just think people today on the whole are too distracted with their blackberrys and their Iphones

Blackberries and iPhones are communications devices, and ones that are not under the control of the Mighty Slime Machine the way TV is.
We have to make these tools work for us. Did you know that the iPhone comes with a youtube player?

think Al Gore or whoever is going to save them so they don't have to leave their distractions to do what has been done in the past.

We have been trying to do what has been done in the past. It doesn't seem to work anymore.

Exactly right. You just validated why Mr. Gore is out here doing what he is doing the way he is doing it now. And to answer your other question, YES, I do stand up, and will be doing so next Saturday at Live Earth like I never have before for this planet against all of those who do nothing but obstruct truth and reason.

13. yeah we all know where you are coming from..we see it on every gore thread!!
no surprize...

but i don't care what you think or what your priorities are..i care about the future of this nation..and i believe Gore has a higher station in life,.. than just the environment..and with that higher station in life.. he can get the environment work done from that higher position..like president of the United States..in fact without being President .i do not see him getting much done about the environment ..because from what i have seen with the epa and the lakes and rivers and the waterways that have been destroyed by this administration..besides all the other destruction they have caused..i don't see that much has been accomplished ..because with a simple thing like cheney did to the Klamath river in Calif where my husbands family had their indian tribe..cheney simply did the biggest destruction of fish in history!! right under Gore's nose and all of our noses ..just to win elections!! and put thousands of indians out of work while destroying endangered fish..and wildlife.

Now if Gore was president think how much he could do to stop these destructive practices..

Think how he could stop the use of depleted uranium that is also destroying the environment..

Think how cheney has interfered with the coal mining in this country,..now think how Gore could stop those destructive practices as president..but has he been able to stop anything on the sidelines?

the list goes on and on..

we all know you have your agenda..mine is just bigger, and it involves saving our nation..our constitution, and our globe!!

2. With the poll results on Hillary yesterday, I don't doubt it.
Unless the Clinton people can provide a convincing strategy for overcoming Hill's enormous negatives, she's toast.

I think Gore stood aside so far to give her that opportunity. Seeing her failing, and seeing Obama slipping badly, and seeing Edwards not coming along as some had hoped, there is a nominee vacuum in the party. I suspect he'll decide he's the guy to fill it.

Since Clinton probably can't win the general election, I'd think
Gore would step in rather than let the repubs grab it.

22. Oh come on. Kinda funny
Edited on Sat Jun-30-07 12:36 PM by BenDavid
how most people search the www and finally find a poll that shows gore leading in n.h. and the poll just happens to come from the washington moonie times and some polling organization that outside of n.h. no one has heard of, but then again I forget haters will alwyas find something to prove their postion.
HRC win win because her negatives won't go higher and will improve after the primaries.HRC has the women vote, she has the black vote, and yesterday USA Whore Today said Latinos are breaking 3-to-1 for Democrats, with Hillary getting 59% of that.Gore received a smaller amountand of course Kerry way the hell lower..
Gee, kinda strange that she has these high negatives but leads all the head to head against the repub candidates, and excuse me but her lead is, come on you can say it.....uh huh INCREASING over obama and edwards and gore. You all speak of gore in the same light as the character in braveheart said, "just when we thought all hope was lost, out noble saviour(s) have arrived." Gore is no saviour. He took an election he should ahve won and lost to an imbecile. Kerry did the same....
You that are against HRC, keep on being against her and when she wins in November 2008 then you can come back in here and say, " I had to hold my nose but I did vote for her"...uh huh
I do thank you

9. This all makes me wonder one thing...
Why the hell did Mark Warner drop out so early? It seems like these guys are playing hot potato with the nomination, "You take it!", "NO! You take it!" I personally think Gore, at just the right time, will see something that changes his mind and he'll end up running. When you see Fox running an inordinate number of stories slamming Gore, that will be the first sign.
