Did Feds Try To Stop Calif. Emissions Law?
Source: CBS News/AP

As the Environmental Protection Agency deliberated on whether to allow California to implement its greenhouse gas law, another federal agency sought to mobilize state and federal lawmakers against the state's petition, documents show.

The 71 pages of Transportation Department e-mails and memos were released Friday to Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., who has contended that the Transportation Department's intervention with EPA was inappropriate and possibly illegal.

The Transportation Department says it did nothing wrong and was simply disseminating information.

The documents show that as EPA's June 15 comment deadline approached, Transportation Department officials compiled lists of senators, House members and governors in states with significant numbers of auto plants and employees, including Michigan, Ohio, Delaware, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

It has more people than any other state in the United States 33 million out of 300 million or 11 out of 100 people in America live in California. If California were a country it would have the sixth largest total production in the world, more than many other countries put together.

Not only that, but most people there think Washington D.C. should be relocated to California - Almost a separate country in their minds as those states mentioned above it is almost safe to say 90% of Californians neither care or know where those states are.

And unlike east of Missouri, most of California's population is in super metros with most of the state land owned by the Federal Government or State Governments.

DOT is just a footnote in the grand scheme - Hell, Arnold has more personal friends than the DOT has employees :) And he has more power than Dick Cheney does because he listens to & represents the people!
