NY movie critic Joel Siegel dead at 63
Source: Yahoo

NEW YORK - Joel Siegel, a longtime movie critic for WABC-TV and "Good Morning America" who racked up five New York Emmy Awards for his insightful work, died Friday, the television station said. He was 63.

The station said Siegel, who was famous for his weekly reviews, had been battling colon cancer.

"Joel was an important part of ABC News and we will miss him," ABC News President David Westin said in a release. "He was a brilliant reviewer and a great reporter. But much more, he was our dear friend and colleague. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joel's family."

Siegel was known for his sense of humor, movie acumen and sharp judgment. He never let an actor off the hook if the performance was lackluster.

1. I heard. So sad. I remember him as a younger man.
It brings mortality to my mind...time is short for us all. He was pretty young. Sad.

2. Wonderful person and movie critic. This is sad news.
Why is it the good ones seem to be going too early these days.

Ann Richards, Molly Ivins and others including Joel Siegel

May the road rise up and meet everyone of them.

3. Sad news
he was a very interesting person. They reported that he was a civil rights worker in the 60's and knew Martin Luther King, sounds like he was a really nice guy.

That was way too soon. I used to watch him all the time.

5. Sad news - always enjoyed his reviews!!!
One of the few who almost always got it right - if the review was bad, it was delivered honestly, but with a touch of intelligent humor. He was indeed a brilliant reviewer, and had a real gift...and a passion for film. He will truly be missed. :-(

7. It is sad. Curious if he had a colonoscopy when he was 50, or
took the recommendation of the HMOs to only have a signodoscopy, which would miss anything in the upper colon

8. A Real Pro!
Great critic and a guy who always had fun in his work. It was a treat to watch him every week when I lived in NY.

Will be sorely missed.
