Bush goes biking, fishing ahead of meeting with Russian president

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine — President Bush´s daughter Barbara hooked a slightly larger striped bass than her dad Saturday in the Atlantic Ocean off this tiny town that´s gearing up for a visit from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

After a 90-minute morning bike ride, Bush hopped aboard his father´s speedboat, Fidelity III, and sped out into the chilly waters on his second fishing excursion in two days. His dad, former President George H.W. Bush, was at the wheel.

Bush´s fishing trips have attracted the attention of residents and tourists in Kennebunkport, where the president´s father has spent his summers since he was a boy.

The town is buzzing with activity in advance of Putin´s arrival on Sunday for what some have dubbed the "lobster summit."

A Russian flag flew alongside Old Glory at a home having a yard sale. Bartley´s Dockside Restaurant posted a sign that said: "Kennebunkport is Putin on the Ritz." The menu at The Clam Shack is posted in both English and Russian.

I wish these summer people would just stay away.

1. .....attracted the attention of residents and tourists is code for "ruined the ambiance of our nice
little town..."

10. Kennebunkport is a tourist town, at least it was when I lived in Maine

13. It is, but ever since BushCo rose to national prominence (the first one, really)
they have fucked it up. You used to be able to see Walker's PT, now there's a big wall cutting off a view to the sea.

It's just wrong how they've destroyed that little town. It can't handle the 'entourages.'

Putin probably refused to go anywhere near the Pig Farm, though...or maybe he wants to talk to the adult (Poppy--the one who hired SECDEF Gates...).

4. Oh man, I read that as "biking, fishing INSTEAD of meeting with Russian president"
which didn't surprise me in the least, sorry to say - -

16. I've gotten to the point, as I've mentioned on DU a few times before,
if he isn't soiling himself, I can handle it. Remember his father vomiting on that Japanese guy in front of the world press?

19. You Know...
... if this guy worked half as hard as he plays, who knows what shape the country would be in now. Probably worse, come to think about it. He sure does get his play time in, though - even in D.C. It's like we have a 14 year old running things ( or signing off on things, anyway ). Let them eat cake.

21. I can't decide, here
Do I prefer Bush preparing for a meeting with Putin with Cheney and Rice telling him
how to mess things up, or do I prefer him going fishing where he won't get anything but
advice from his dad, who seemed to know how to keep a lid on it.

22. I got an unintended chuckle from CNN report
watched a bit of the news about the car bombs in England

the "news" person went into a fairly long "report" regarding bush getting updates while on "vacation"

mentioned that bush went for a bike ride BUT received reports/updates during his ride, then bush went for a boat ride BUT received reports/updates while on the boat...

"news" person stated that one of the people that accompany bush for his "rides" is in constant contact with various departments, monitored updates and passes the information to bush

"news" person mentioned several times that bush was constantly being updated on the situation even though he was out riding bikes or boats

caught myself chuckling at the intensity needed to point out that bush wasn't "goofing off"

25. But the pathetic thing about that is that EVERYONE
(even little boots) NEEDS time to JUST PLAIN CHILL.

Okay, so little boots has chilled more than some, but the need to make it look like he's NOT chilling when maybe he COULD stand to chill a little is just odd...

I have no idea WTF the press is thinking with their coverage of this jerkoff. Not that he's a jerkoff because he went fishing, but he's a jerkoff because his only accomplishements in office have been BAD. Yeah.

SNAP! He'll be caught in the inescapable jaws of Bush's clever ruse. Thank you Mr. Bush!

27. Just got back from impeachment protest at Walkers Point
I have to say, I have been to many demonstrations, but this is the first one I actually enjoyed in a long while.

I would say there were a least twelve hundred demonstrators (Versus the couple hundred the news keeps reporting).I went to school with a thousand people so I know what a thousand people feels like; this seemed like more.

28. Just got back from impeachment protest at Walkers Point
I have to say, I have been to many demonstrations, but this is the first one I actually enjoyed in a long while. The music and the feeling in the air was just exhilerating:) And the chants were actually original. (If I hear Hey ho, one more time I'll barf)
