Motorola Sees $101M Layoff Charge (7,500 job cuts)

Cell phone maker Motorola Inc. will log a net pretax charge of $101 million in its second quarter after cutting 2,100 jobs, the company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

In May, Motorola said it would complete an already-announced plan to lay off 3,500 employees by June 30. At that time, the cell phone maker also said it would cut another 4,000 jobs.

1. That's a lot of good jobs... I'm pretty sure Motorola employs a lot of people here in Phoenix.
Not that it matters. It just hits a little harder when its in your own back yard.

5. Cell phone division is in San Diego, ...
With Nokia dropping out of the Cell phone market as well,
San Diego has CDMA engineers looking for positions all over
this town.

BTW, with all these engineers looking, it is driving engineering
wages way down.

The B--h/Ch-n-y economy just keeps humming along.
