Iraq market truck bomb kills 105
Source: BBC News

A deadly truck bombing in a busy market in northern Iraq has killed 105 people and injured 240, police say.
The morning blast destroyed the market in the small town of Amirli, south of Kirkuk, killing many people instantly and trapping dozens among the rubble.

It was the deadliest single attack in Iraq since April, correspondents say.

2. This must be insurgents' tactics

Killing Shiites and destroy their normal life so that Iraqi government as well as foreign occupiers will be resented.

Apparently Iraqis/Americans were unable to stop all these suicide bombings.

Iraq truck bomb death toll may be 150: officials
27 minutes ago

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The death toll from Saturday's truck bomb attack in a market in the northern Iraqi town of Tuz Khurmato may be as high as 150, local officials said on Sunday.

Local police and the mayor, Mohammed Rasheed, said the confirmed death toll was 130, with 250 wounded. But police said 20 people were still missing and presumed dead.

Rasheed said the truck bomb destroyed about 50 small shops and 50 houses in the largely Shi'ite Muslim town. On Saturday night, Rasheed had put the death toll at 115.

A death toll of 150 would make it one of the single deadliest insurgent bombings in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

4. Suicide Bomb Kills Over 100 in Iraq

UZ KHORMATO, Iraq — A suicide truck bomber blasted a Shiite town north of Baghdad on Saturday, killing more than 100 people, police said, in a sign Sunni insurgents are pulling away from a U.S. offensive around the capital to attack where security is thinner.

The marketplace devastation underlined a hard reality in Iraq: There are not enough forces to protect everywhere. U.S. troops, already increased by 28,000 this year, are focused on bringing calm to Baghdad, while the Iraqi military and police remain overstretched and undertrained.

The top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, told The Associated Press he expected Sunni extremists to try to "pull off a variety of sensational attacks and grab the headlines to create a `mini-Tet.'"

He was referring to the 1968 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Tet offensive that undermined public support for the Vietnam War in the United States.

5. Maybe we should have our troops pull back to the borders, catch
a breather (and some inbound cross border traffic while we're at it)

and tell them, better to come to terms politically, but kill each other off if you must, then we come in and knock off the winner

6. You will never be able to defeat the winner in Iraq (remember Vietnam?)
if you can't even defeat some nobody right now.

The war is completely lost if this kind of suicide bombings keeps going on. It tells you that the supply routes of bombs are uninterrupted despite of the surge.

Life can't go on in Iraq if every few days a big marketplace gets blow up like that.

It's foolish to overthrow Saddam, the conclusion of Iraqis' internal power struggle, which took decades to complete.

This war was a huge mistake, which put Iraq back to square one.

Sigh!

8. I remember Vietnam
if we pull out before the job is done all hell will break out. Southeast Asia will all be commies.
Hmm. I just bought a dress shirt that said made in Vietnam.
Same logic is now in play. We can't leave now. It was a mistake to go in, but we can't leave now, all hell will break out.

7. this is sad....
....this is very sad....what are we doing in Iraq?....why are we still there?

....could one of you trolling freeps please explain to me why you don't want us to leave Iraq? Is it the oil? The 'terrorists' aren't going to eat or drink it; wait a few months, they'll sell it to you or one of your many corporate energy buddies....

....is it 'terrorist' bases? You can still have fun bombing the bases when you find them....

....is it defense contracts; no problem, the prez and congress will help you invent a new boon-doggle to raid the treasury....

....or do you war-mongers just get your dick-off or clit-tickled over carnage? You really need to try and find a better grade of porno....

....I'm bored...time for you to start a different war....please leave Iraq alone, haven't they suffered enough?....

....Out of Iraq, NOW!!
