U.S. soldier killed in Iraq's Salahuddin province

Published: July 8, 2007

BAGHDAD: A U.S. soldier was killed when an explosion near
his vehicle during operations in Iraq's Salahuddin province,
northwest of Baghdad, the U.S. military said Sunday.

The blast on Saturday wounded four other soldiers, the
military said in a statement. It gave no details on the
location or circumstances of the attack. The name of the
slain soldier was withheld pending notification of his family.

The death brings to 3,602 the number of members of the
U.S. military who have died since the beginning of the
Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press
count.

Suicide car bomber strikes MND-B patrol
Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO

BAGHDAD — A Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldier was killed
and three other Soldiers were wounded when a suicide vehicle-borne
improvised explosive device detonated near their patrol during combat
operations west of the Iraqi capital July 8.

Units operating in this area west of Baghdad have had recent success
working with local area sheiks in the reconciliation process. Continued
operations in the area have also located numerous weapons caches
and IEDs.

The deceased Soldier’s name is being withheld pending notification of
next of kin and release by the Department of Defense.
