Live Earth wraps up, touted as massive success
Source: CTV

As the post-party clean up begins, organizers of this weekend's Live Earth concerts are calling the global series the biggest musical event every staged.

The concert was also available on the Internet. More than 10 million people tuned in to the video broadcast on LiveEarth.MSN.com, making it the most watched online event ever.

The event trumpeted the positive message that fighting global warming was not about sacrifice as much as it was about making little changes such as buying low-energy light bulbs or planting a tree.

"Let's hope the concerts that are happening around the world are not just about entertainment, but about starting a revolution," said Madonna, who sang a song she wrote for Live Earth called "Hey You."

5. Oddly, I chose not to watch it because of the reasons that the concert represented...
I switch on my tv, I burn fossil fuels and add to global warming. Yes, I'm that anal about my carbon footprint. I don't believe in carbon credits. I believe in actually reducing my carbon instead of passing it on to someone else. Ironic since I'm writing on DU at the moment.

6. UK: Diana ratings dwarf Live Earth
Possibly just because the Diana one came the week before, and the week before that was the Glastonbury festival, which was heavily covered by the BBC. People may have been concerted out.

The British TV audience for the Live Earth concerts was less than a third of that for last week's Concert for Diana.

BBC One's average ratings between 2000 and 2200 BST on Saturday were 3.1 million, compared with 11.4 million for the Diana gig on the previous Sunday.
...
The BBC said the ratings were "good" for "a Saturday night in July".

"The audience for Live Earth peaked at nearly five million viewers," a spokeswoman said.
