Dems Call for Combat to End by 2008
Source: Associated Press

By ANNE GEARAN and ANNE FLAHERTY

WASHINGTON (AP) - A senior Democrat said Tuesday it was obvious the Iraqi government has made no progress and the only way to propel it was to begin pulling out U.S. troops.

In a countermove, President Bush's national security adviser Stephen Hadley and war adviser Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute arrived on Capitol Hill to consult with members.

Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the Armed Services Committee, proposed legislation with Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., that would order President Bush to begin pulling out troops in 120 days and end combat by April 30, 2008.

The measure would allow for some troops to remain to conduct counterterrorism, train the Iraqi security forces and protect U.S. infrastructure.

2. Get them ALL OUT NOW!
No remaining presence. Let the Iraqis train their forces...they have had 4 years to learn how to do it. And just what "US infrastructure" are we going to protect? The oil fields? Our permanent bases? Staging areas for an attack on Iran? We need to get out completely and we need to take any Iraqi who wants to leave with us. We need to get this liar and his VP out of office. It will send a message to the world that we are better than our leaders.

4. "end combat by April 30, 2008"
We are being sold another bill of goods. These are weasel words. First of all 'end combat' does not mean 'end the occupation'. Secondly, combat operations should STOP TODAY, as in

NOW

. Finally, April 30 2008?. No, sorry. How about:

As Soon As Logistically Possible!

Edited on Tue Jul-10-07 01:46 PM by goodgd_yall
The whole "train the Iraqi security forces" idea isn't working and a waste of time. The Iraqi troops are not able to remain neutral to the Shiite/Sunni conflict. Protect U.S. infrastructure? What---U.S. bases? What infrastructure?

11. Obviously NOV 06 voting taught nothing to either side in this debate.
America wants her troops out of Iraq NOW... Not in 2008, 09, 10, 11...... This whole scenario has the making of Johnson - Nixon screw up in Vietnam.

13. While listening to AirAmerica last week...
I think it was on Rachel's show, someone pointed out that by march of next year we will have to pull out anyway, something with the troop rotations, funding, etc... didn't catch the first part, but the second part the went on to say that, most of the repukes that are bailing ship now, know this is going to happen so they are taking a preemptive switch on their stance of the war so they can keep their flimsy jobs.

One other point this person made was that is why the Dems are pushing so hard for the "draw down" in 08, because it's going to happen anyway.

Anyone else hear this?

16. Great news! After all what's a few lives when you have elections
to win.

It's a sad day for america when the fear of the Faux and Rush Limpballs propaganda can cause politicans to wait another year to end a brutual bloody occupation.
