Preacher admits sex abuse, avoids jail

DA agrees to plea deal to keep 3 boys from testifying

An unordained preacher who pleaded guilty Monday to three felony charges of first-degree sodomy in the repeated sexual abuse of three children will not serve any time in prison.

Circuit Judge Karen Hall sentenced Jerry Wayne Love to 15 years on each charge to be served one after the other. But she accepted prosecutors' recommendation and ordered Love to spend five years on probation and undergo treatment in a sex-offender program.

Love, 51, of 3202 Overhill St. pleaded guilty to charges of sodomizing three young boys. In exchange, the prosecution dropped 10 counts of sodomy and three counts of sexual abuse against Love. The boys now are 13, 14 and 16.
(snip)

In the 1990s Love and his wife were named as adoptive parents of the year by the Madison County Department of Human of Resources, officials said.

4. Good thing he didn't steal a loaf of bread.
They would have sent him to jail and thrown away the key.

2. Ah, well..
I'm sure that's not going to emotionally cripple boys at a formative point in their sexual development or anything.

:sarcasm:

5. It seems that the sentence is awfully light in comparison to what I'm used to seeing.
I've been involved as a psychologist in maybe 4 or 500 sex offender cases over the years, and can't think of a case where the sentence was this light. I understand the argument about not making the kids testify, and I really don't know anything about the specifics here, so I'm on thin ice in commenting at all, but it seems to me that there might be as great a risk of harming the kids by letting them see their molestor walk away with no lockup time. And yes, the offender will get mandated therapy, but what about the kids? I didn't see anything about the offender having to pay for their psychotherapy, or make any other kind of restitution to them.

6. This is fucking amazing!
How could they offer him a plea deal with no prison time?

He's a habitual offender who's going to be re-offending.

Fuck!

7. There is no "completion of a sex offender program"...there is no cure, there
is on-going group therapy that helps some people some of the time, but he is always going to have this disorder and he is always going to be a risk to children.

8. Karen Hall should be taken out and horsewhipped.
And I'm not joking. Nor am I engaging in hyperbole.

That is, bar none, one of the worst decisions handed down by a judge. Worse than the idiot who sentence a domestic abuser to marry the woman he was abusing....She, at least, could run away.

This....This is just Un-Fucking-Believeable....

Crap.

Double Crap.

10. What would happen if it was an atheist that had done this?
:eyes: That's a rhetorical question folks, I KNOW what would happen. Just because this guy is a dealer in the biggest con-game ever perpetrated on the human race he gets a free pass. :eyes: Man of god and all that. :eyes: Satan made him do it. :eyes: All is forgiven now in the eyes of the lord. :eyes: Go and sin no more. :eyes:
