GOP official says Vitter should resign; read senator's statement
Mike Hasten

BATON ROUGE – In the wake of U.S. Sen. David Vitter’s apology after his phone number turned up in an escort service's call list, a member of the Republican State Central Committee called for him to resign.

Vincent Bruno of Kenner said today that Vitter should resign “for his own good, the good of the party and the good of his family.” If he doesn’t resign, Vitter should “join the Democratic Party where they think that kind of behavior is OK.”

Bruno said Vitter’s actions violate the Republican Party’s “Family Values” stance but he doesn’t expect the party leadership to do anything about it. “We had David Duke and couldn’t do anything about it.”

“They think more of the party than the right thing to do,” he said. “If they’re not going to enforce family values, they ought to take it out of the vocabulary.

“We’re the party of hypocrites,” he said. “Vote for us and we’ll lie to you, we’ll engage prostitutes and we’ll cheat on our wives.”

9. republicons have trouble accepting responsibility
They lie, cheat, and steal -- and blame other people. No wonder the Vast Majority of America has turned its back on them and their small-minded policies of greed and perversion.

2. Ah bruno, the classic republican puke
poor david is an embarrassment to you and yours. Lets keep bruno in mind when a democrat comes out on that list. If its okay with dems to fuck whores and conservatives have demonized them for that lifestyle then I guess we won't be hearing any (fake) outrage when it happens. Bruno does not give a fuck about vitter or who or what he is fucking, he just hates being embarassed by a hypocrite.

HYPOCRISY - A CHRISTIAN CONSERVATIVE VALUE.

5. Defense of Marriage Act Co-Author.
What's really eating me up, is David Vitter was a Co-Author of the "Defense of Marriage Act" a Repub proposed constitutional amendment to define marriage as being between a man and a woman. His whole platform for it was that marriage is a "sacred institution" that should be "cherished, and protected".. all the while he was off cheating on his wife and child with whores.

I'm all for legalizing prostitution.. what consenting adults do behind closed doors is their own business.. but this level of senatorial hypocrisy just burns my butt.

12. have you ever noticed
that the conservatives who scream loudest against a particular group/idea i.e. gays, adultery, pedophiles (add your own) are always the ones who get caught doing what they preached against. They think that if they scream out against gays or adultery and preach it to whomever will listen will make everyone around them not suspect that they are actually cheating on their wives or are gay (many of the evangelical preachers come to mind). It's hypocrisy, but much worse. Kind of like a president who screams of supporting the troops and walking around in a flight suit. Usually it is just the opposite!

He's just a backbencher on the state party committee. If the state chairman had called for Vitter's resignation, that would be another thing.

17. I'll say it first
Vitter is going to resign. For him the choice is either stay and be faced with a well-financed even more religious Republican primary challenger (Jim McCrery, most likely) who will defeat him or leave, let Governor Blanco appoint Mitch Landrieu or Chris John (either of whom would beat Vitter handily or the Uriah Heep-like McCrery narrowly) and be done with it.

18. oooppsss seems ole senator " I sleep with whores" vitter also used others..
On New Orleans local TV news tonite...the Canal Street madam (ran a local "house of joy" that was shut down a few years ago) says that Vitter was also one of her clients. So it appears that his use of prostitutes was probably a pattern, rather than an anomaly.

19. Don't we still have a Democratic governor in Louisiana?
If the rules there are that she gets to replace the good Senator...we get one more Democrat, which means we can tell Joe LIEberman to go fuck himself...yank his chairmanship, the whole nine yards. Yes, Mr. Vitter, you should resign for the good of the Republican Party. I agree.

Edited on Tue Jul-10-07 07:13 PM by calipendence
... if I read this page correctly, so no "Wyoming rule"!!

http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:IOXoQBEGvYIJ:www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/resources/pdf/Vacancies.pdf

It would indicate to me that we could get a Democratic replacement if Vitter resigns. Perhaps we can have a countdown until independence from Lieberman? Then we can tell Susan Collins that she has a time limit to switch to the Democratic Party if she wants Lieberman's Homeland Security Committee leadership position. If she doesn't join soon, BOTH she and he get the boot and someone else gets that chairmanship (maybe the new person that gets appointed as senator!). Then she will be going DOWN in 2008!

BTW, looking here, it also says that Wisconsin requires a special election to fill their vacancies. That's not too helpful if we want Feingold in on the 2008 presidential ticket. The Wisconsin governor wouldn't be able to "appoint" his successor if he was on the winning ticket, and we'd risk having him replaced with a Rethug! Ugh!

31. As a former resident of Louisiana I did call his Washington office and his
Metairie office today. I expressed my horror as a former "Republican" and shared that I had yet to speak with my best friend from Metairie.

The Washington office sounded stressed, not so much in Metairie.

Cheating is okay in old school New Orleans. "That's just the way it is, dear".

39. I googled Vincent Bruno...get this

Bruno was David Duke's spiritual advisor in the early 1990s. He also causes waves in the state party
as a way of getting revenge (ex: Kenner Levee Board firing)... He was also the one who confronted
Vitter about some 11 month affair while Vitter was running for Governor, causing him to drop out
of the race.

And what about this diaper fetish? I'll just assume it's hearsay for now.

40. I don't get it.
He should resign because he hooked up with an escort service? How many politicians (liberal and conservative, Democrat and Republican) would have to go by those standards? I always thought it was bullshit that Clinton was raked over the coals for a blowjob, and I feel the same way about this. To think that this guy should throw himself on his sword for diddling a few hookers is, to me, hypocritical.

Now, I don't know anything else about this Vitter guy. He may be an asshole who needs to go, but I can't say that I really care about his frequenting the whorehouses one way or the other.

And it's not just about the hypocrisy. He didn't accidentally let an "Oh shit" slip in a speech. He has blamed infideliy, gays, prostitutes etc for the major problems in society while he was engaging in the same behavior. If he doesn't want to live by the GOP's supposed (and generally ignored) "code of behavior", he should resign or they should stop talking about "family values." The latter is fine with me, and then we can forget about Vitters.

But I see your point. It's inconsequential to me as well. Let the GOP take care of this pig.

48. Nah, they are pretty good at eating their own.
But, then again, what do you expect when you are dealing with the party that tries to legislate what everyone's morals should or should not be? The party that seems to feel having some fun with an intern is an equal or even more serious crime than lying to the American people, starting a war under such lies, changing the reasons we went to war when they found out that their entire motive was bull. Or the party that feels that outing a CIA operative for political posturing is ok, then lying about it to try to cover it up is equally ok?

No, for being the party of "morals", they are not above eating their own.

50. I couldn't believe how Fucker Carlson what defending him last night
on Dan Abrams' show. He was actually saying that there was nothing wrong with Vitter seeing a prostitute; that when men live apart from their families, that's what guy do--and that what he extorts to teenagers, he doesn't have to do in his real life.

I was like, so the fact that he can't even be a man of his word in something as basic as a fucking wedding vow means nothing? Isn't that the very excuse they all trotted out when Clinton was outted for a bj? That "if he can't honor his wedding vow, how can he be trusted with national security?"

It's not an issue of seeing a prostitute--it's about being a hypocrit and thinking that just because he asked God and his wife for forgiveness that means the rest of us have to fall in line--if that was the case, then Clinton's name would be rolled out all of the time with the "but he did it".

And word to Bruno's mama: If he would take a look at his own party's shenanigans, he would see that Vitter is in the right party.
