GOP Senators Call for Iraq Change Now (private meeting w/ Hadley)

WASHINGTON — Several Republican senators told President Bush's top national security aide privately Wednesday that they did not want Bush to wait until September to change course in Iraq.

The meeting that lawmakers had with national security adviser Stephen Hadley came as GOP Sens. Olympia Snowe and Chuck Hagel announced they would back Democratic legislation ordering combat to end next spring.

Republican support for the war has steadily eroded in recent weeks as the White House prepared an interim progress report that found that the U.S.-backed government in Baghdad has made little progress in meeting major targets of reform.

Of the GOP lawmakers who say the U.S. should reduce its military role in Iraq, nearly all are up for re-election in 2008.

Keep up the pressure, guys. These Senators may just start listening to their constituents.

6. "Wimps"
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 06:34 AM by Strawman
Keep sending our kids to die in the middle of a civil war. Keep killing Iraqi civilians while making no progress toward achieving stability and oh yeah start an unnecessary unjust war against a country that posed no threat to us and was not in any way responsible for the attacks on our country.

Why? Because we don't wanna look like "wimps." Boehner just distilled the rationale for the war down to one red meat word for his dwindling base. This war has never been anything more than a drunken pissing contest dressed up as foreign policy.

We'll piss all over those people in Iraq to show Osama these colors don't run. We'll piss on our soldiers. Who cares if they get sent into battle without body armor and get paid a fraction of what Blackstone mercenaries make? Who cares if their families are running out of food stamps while Halliburton bilks the treasury? And who gives a damn if the war ends up being the biggest recruitment boon that terrorist groups ever could have wished for?

No, the most important thing is that the chickenhawk Republicans and our Chimperor are not made to look like "wimps." Piss on sanity.

:sarcasm:
