Al Quaida is gaining strength
Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) - The government has concluded that al-Qaida has rebuilt its operating capability to a level not seen since the summer of 2001, The Associated Press has learned.
A new threat assessment suggests the group that launched the most devastating terrorist attack on the United States has been able to rebuild despite nearly six years of bombings, war and other tactics aimed at crippling it.

So what intel are they basing these facts on, and will they actually act on it this time if it's true!

38. We all question the timing
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 05:53 PM by Canuckistanian
With every press release, with every press conference, every pronouncement from the pResident himself.

Almost NONE of their "warnings" have been proven correct.

And when they SHOULD have provided warnings, there was silence. Think about the Aug. 6th, 2001 Presidential Daily Briefing.

From then until 9/11, there were ZERO warnings.

Welcome to DU. You'll find some friends here.

5. I'm sure all the relatives of the collateral damage caused by six years of bombing
might have something to do with al-Qa ida's growing strength. How do you bomb al-Qa ida for six years? It's not a country. They've bombed Iraq and Afghanistan, not al-Qa ida. (Whose leader happens to be in Pakistan where they won't bomb because it's a sovereign nation as opposed to the in-sovereign Iraq and Afghanistan.)

Get out of Iraq and go back into Afghanistan and Pakistan. Use the American military to destroy their capability to exist. Don't farm this out to the Northern Alliance. Don't leave this up to Musharraf. Finish these guys off!

14. Al Qaeda's Strength 'Undiminished' in Iraq
Source: ABC News

While the military has maintained that al Qaeda is on the run in Iraq, by any number of measures the terror group and its affiliates are as strong as ever, and June was the most violent month since the start of the war, a senior U.S. military official told ABC News.

"Despite our successes in taking out leaders and infrastructure," said the official, "al Qaeda's operational capability appears to be undiminished."

Al Qaeda operations are marked by the use of suicide bombers, and the latest intelligence assessment shows that suicide attacks were near an all-time high in May and June. According to the report, al Qaeda in Iraq is responsible for 15 percent of the attacks in the country, often the most deadly. Sunni insurgents are blamed for 70 percent of attacks, and Shiite militias 15 percent. Shiite attacks, however, have sharply increased and are now probably higher than 15 percent.

ABC News has learned the most recent military intelligence assessment of Iraq also shows that the overall level of violence in the country -- measured as the number of "violent incidents" -- hit its highest level in June since the war began.

18. But keepin us safe is the GOP and Bush's big claim to success
After trillions of dollars, 2 wars, shock, awe etc, they're telling us it's a bust? We gave up our freedom, our dignity and every meaningful claim to an American "way of life". They're keeping us safe, we were told. The "price of freedom" they said. The Constitution isn't a suicide pact they sneered. All this, and al queda is as strong as the day the presidency was stolen. Seems like kind of a big deal to me, to admit such absolute failure.

19. Intel Report: Al-Qaida Aiming at U.S.
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 05:09 PM by Newsjock
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Al-Qaida is stepping up its efforts to sneak terror operatives into the United States and has acquired most of the capabilities it needs to strike here, according to a new U.S. intelligence assessment, The Associated Press has learned.

The draft National Intelligence Estimate is expected to paint an increasingly worrisome portrait of al-Qaida's ability to use its base along the Pakistan-Afghan border to launch and inspire attacks, even as Bush administration officials say the U.S. is safer nearly six years into the war on terror.

29. With An Administration That Has Had More Coincidences Happen To Them In 6 Years.....
that defy probabilities - what would you expect from them when their own party now is losing faith and backing away from this unwinnable war that we were lied into. Yep - "Al-Qaida ready to strike inside U.S." Coincidence - I think not.

This is the only thing that *Co has left to continue this war - another 9/11 type attack. Actually any terror attack would probably do.

This could be a double edged sword - because - one thing *Co has always said that since what they have put into effect since 9/11 that we haven't been struck again. They say this is because of their efforts. However, if we do have another 9/11 type attack - this would (for *Co's sake) rally the people around again to continue to support the war.

Apparently - the attempted British terror attack in London a few weeks back and the Glasgow airport incident - didn't sufficiently scare those who are now turning against *Co. It didn't work. The last arrow they have in their quiver is to pull something in this country.

We need to remove these justice obstructing war mongering criminals from the WH as soon as possible or who knows what despicable things they will do to this country to continue to have their way.
