21. That assumes the Senate will even vote on this bill
I suppose it will die in the Senate due to bickering over words in the bill, or some other procedural gobbledygook.

4. link House passes bill to withdraw troops from Iraq
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 05:30 PM by cal04
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Defying a White House veto threat, the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday approved legislation to bring combat troops out of Iraq by April 1, 2008.

By a vote of 223-201, the Democratic-controlled House approved the legislation in the hope it will pressure the Senate to attach a similar mandatory troop withdrawal timetable to a military policy bill it is debating.

Passage of the House bill marked the third time this year it has voted for timetables to end the U.S. involvement in the war that is now in its fifth year. Two previous efforts either died in the Senate or were vetoed by President George W. Bush.

The measure that passed on Thursday would tell the Pentagon to begin withdrawing combat troops within four months and complete the redeployment by April 1.

6. I noticed that you have a picture of Kucinich
for your pic. Kucinich did vote no on this today listen to him on the floor and it made a lot of sense. Dennis said this is another farce and said we need to stop funding this war and bring our troops home with the money we have over there and we can do it in the next 3 months. Dennis is right enough of this playing around the way to stop this war is to stop funding it and bring our troops home now!

WASHINGTON - Iraq has achieved only spotty military and political progress toward a democratic society, the Bush administration conceded Thursday in an unenthusiastic assessment that war critics quickly seized on as the House voted to withdraw U.S. troops by spring.

The measure passed 223-201 in the Democratic-controlled House despite a veto threat from President Bush, who has ruled out any change in war policy before September.

"The security situation in Iraq remains complex and extremely challenging," the administration report concluded. The economic picture is uneven, it added, and the government has not yet enacted vital political reconciliation legislation.

23. House votes for withdrawal from Iraq
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON - The Iraqi government is achieving only spotty military and political progress, the Bush administration conceded Thursday in an assessment that war critics quickly seized on as confirmation of their dire warnings. Within hours, the House voted to withdraw U.S. troops by spring.

The House measure passed 223-201 in the Democratic-controlled chamber despite a veto threat from President Bush, who has ruled out any change in war policy before September.

"The security situation in Iraq remains complex and extremely challenging," the administration report concluded. The economic picture is uneven, it added, and the government has not yet enacted vital political reconciliation legislation.

27. Its effects are already huge.
The MSM really changed its tune today.

No longer was the President, that man of principle, standing up against impossible odds for the courage of his convictions (same ol same ol) but for once, we hear the name of the force that opposes him.

And it turns out that that force is We The people.

The People - yes that huge 70% of us has made this happen. It is a bi-partisan non-party issue. The majority of the populace wanted the vote to turn out this way. Doesn't matter if you are a Democrat, a Republican, An independent, thinking America has had enough.

And it was mentioned again and again that 46% of us want impeachment. (i think the figures are higher - but I am reporting on mainstream media's phrasings.)

Listened for quite a while on C Span - various Representatives making their talking points.

Those who voted against the withdrawal said one of two things - that this bill was inadequate because if we are going to get out - The withdrawal should be immediate and not later on (Fusty old Starched-up Republicans said that - don't think they meant a word of it.) Or else they said that yes they were aware of what the people wanted, but that greatness is not doing what is dictated by the masses of the unwashed, but by following a great leader who had convictions (Yes even in Congress there are Kool Aid drinkers.)

Ariana Huffington and Pat Buchanan agreed with each other - though he HAD to point out where they differed.

The tone on the media was different today. Ed Schultz was treated not like some BOZO from the lower cellar let out from bondage but as though he had credibility.

And not that Schultz is my favorite - but I think the media extended to all of the rest of us Pinko-loving war-hating, President deploring humans a new respect. We are credible.

And more and more, Bush was called "delusional."

If the Delusional Ones don't attempt to blow up Iran by the end of the week - we might even be able to change the course this country has taken.

28. Democrats spinning their wheels while Republicans laugh out loud at them
Bush* will veto and it takes the same number of votes to remove him from office as it does to overcome a veto. Only a simple majority to Impeach though, and once the evidence brought out in an Impeachment trial hits the newsstands it will be very hard not to vote to convict..
