Fire union plans to dog Rudy on prez trail
Source: NY Daily News

Debunkers of ex-Mayor Rudy Giuliani's public image as a Sept. 11 strongman say they'll dog him on the campaign trail to redefine his defining moment.

"If we have to go to California, to Des Moines, Iowa, or wherever we have to go to let the American people know what this man is truly about, how arrogant he is and how he distorts the truth - yes, we will," said FDNY Deputy Chief Jim Riches, who lost his firefighter son in the attacks.

Riches appears in "Rudy Giuliani: Urban Legend," a 13-minute video released by the International Association of Fire Fighters this week.

The video accuses Giuliani of giving firefighters faulty equipment, impeding the search for remains, and profiting politically and financially from the tragedy.

IAFF spokesman Jeff Zack said members will appear at Giuliani events.

Be great if Rudy couldn't use fire stations and firefighters as a backdrop. When Santorum was running there was a video of Rudy speaking at a PA fire station to audience of firefighters and citizens about how Ricky boy would help keep America safe. Figure we'd see those same kind of ads from Rudy - ha be great if message got out to all fire fighters that this guy help cost firefighters at the WTC their lives.

1. if you hear ppl dismiss the union saying they're partisan
Edited on Fri Jul-13-07 10:26 AM by NYCALIZ
ask the ppl if they realize the same union supported Rudy three times for Mayor.
Not until after 9/11 did they stop supporting Rudy.

3. The fire fighters campaigned for bush* in October 2004
...according to some news reports I saw a few days ago. That gives the fire fighters credibility to say they are not partisan Democrats.

4. Rudy's campaign will just find rank and file members to support him
Union members aren't always lock and step behind their leaders/officers.

My guess is that the campaign staff will find enough supporters within the general membership outside of NY to override this particular situation
