Bush war policy needs more time, says Rice

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice exhorted congressional critics of Iraq war policy Friday to give the Bush administration and the fledgling government in Baghdad until September to "make a coherent judgment of where we are."

On the morning after the House voted 223-201 for a Democratic proposal to force a U.S. troop withdrawal by next spring, Rice acknowledged in a round of television interviews that Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's government hasn't achieved "as much progress as we would like."

"But we shouldn't just dismiss as inconsequential the progress that they have made," the secretary argued.

Maj. Gen. Benjamin R. Mixon, a top U.S. commander in Iraq, told Pentagon reporters via a video linkup from Iraq that "there will be consequences" if U.S. troops are withdrawn too soon.

7. Lissen up, Condi. This is NOT the Iraqis' fault! Quit trying to blame it on them!

This war is not the Iraqis' doing, so stop that "blame the Iraqis" shit right this minute.

This failure is yours, Condi - yours & Georgie's and Dickie's & Donny's & Colin's & Tony's.

"coherent judgment of where we are" my ass. You bunch of cowardly war criminals wouldn't know a coherent judgement if it bit you on your collective sorry ass. And I hope to Christ it does. Soon. Preferably from The Hague.

11. A NY Times editorial said that the Iraqi leaders are playing games & impeding progress
This was months ago and the editorial was short on those details of what they were doing.

13. the iraqi Leaders ARE squabbling for power positions while their people
die.

The concept of a 'unity' government is not working.

15. The "unity" that bush* wants is a production-sharing agreement to get the oil rights..
...into the hands of his buddies at the oil companies. I am sure you know that.

16. I agree...
I find it nauseating how various US politicians (I gather on both sides of the famous aisle) now have the temerity to blame the US's hand-crafted puppet Iraqi government for the catastrophe on all levels that is now, as predicted, flowing out of Bush's largely-unopposed reckless invasion and imbecilic occupation of Iraq.
