4. She should poo poo the republicons
They have no crediblity, honesty, or integrity.

She should appoint whoever she wants -- someone decent to represent LA and the USA -- certainly not a republicon.

6. I nominate Retired New Jersey Bishop Joe Morris Doss, now living in Louisiana
Edited on Fri Jul-13-07 04:39 PM by IanDB1

Bishop Larry Maze of Arkansas and retired New Jersey Bishop Joe Morris Doss, now living in Louisiana, joined a diverse spectrum of clergy and religious leaders on Capitol Hill May 22 to speak against passage of the so-called “Federal Marriage Amendment” (FMA).

The bishops are part of “Clergy for Fairness,” a coalition of religious leaders working to oppose passage of an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would define marriage. The Senate is scheduled to debate the measure during the week of June 5.

Maze and Doss participated in a news conference and lobby day in Washington to express their opposition to the amendment and to ask their senators in Washington to oppose the proposal. Their participation was part of a full day of activities and a national petition effort organized by the Clergy for Fairness coalition.

“Marriage is a theological matter of first importance for the church,” Doss said during a press conference in the Dirksen Senate office building. “It raises some of the most fundamental, complex, and vexing issues of theology… Such issues demand the church’s most careful and profound deliberation, and that is to take place in our parishes, councils, seminaries, publications, and places of theological reflection. It is to take place within national and international units of each denomination and in ecumenical dialogue.

8. I nominate Dr. Marc Behar
A Letter From The Chair
April 2007

Though our past winter was a mild one, with not even one frosty day, I still look forward to springtime in New Orleans and the beginning of the Festival Season. It is part of what makes living in New Orleans so special and unique. People come from all over the State and throughout the U.S. to partake in New Orleans and Louisiana's distinctive flavor. They are fascinated by our food, music, architecture, our southern hospitality and our joie de vivre.

I sometimes recall other cities and states that I've visited and I reflect on what characteristically distinguished them for me. It might have been a famous landmark or interesting attraction that appealed to me or a quaint village or community that I found charming. Other times, it was the people that made a place memorable.

I was recently thinking about why people of one state may offer certain basic rights to their LGBT residents while citizens of other states rush to add amendments to their constitution to ensure that gays won't be allowed equal rights to marriage. Recent articles in the Times Picayune showcased the intent of either the electorate, the judicial system or the legislature of several states by their offering of states-rights and benefits to their LGBT citizens in committed same-sex relationships.

Though Massachusetts is the only state at this time that allows gays to marry, ten years ago the Hawaiian legislature recognized same-sex relationships by offering a variety of states-rights. California passed state-level rights to registered domestic partners in 2003, while Vermont and Connecticut give gay couples the right to enter into a civil union. Most recently, the legislature in New Jersey passed legislation to offer gay partners the option to enter into Civil Unions and D.C. allows unmarried couples to register as domestic partners. Alaska voters had approved a constitutional ban against gay marriage, however their judicial branch ensured health benefits for same-sex partners of public (State or Anchorage) employees, provided they are in a committed same-sex relationship and are financially interdependent. This is up for a vote of the people this Spring.

<snip>

Sincerely,
Dr. Marc Behar

9. The governor is under no obligation to replace Vitter with an asshole.
As per this thread's nice link: http://www.legis.state.la.us/lss/lss.asp?doc=81285

But of course our party doesn't fight back. I expect the usual act of submission.

10. Guess the GOP boys don't realize ...
... they are not in a very good position to negotiate from.

If Vitter stays, his presence will be a constant reminder of (a) this scandal in all its gory details, and (b) the hypocrisy of the 'family values' Republicans.

In addition, the GOP will have to contend with the ire of Vitter's constutuents who are horrified, and want him GONE.

Lose a Senate seat, or live with the consequences of Vitter's continuation in office.

Pick one.

Negotiations over.

12. What was that state? But the last Senator a month ago that died, the per
their state law, the GOP picked three and the Gov had to pick from the three. This will be the GOP talking point WHEN Vitters resigns. You can bet on it.
