His own words likely to confront Vitter

His own words likely to confront Vitter

By CHARLES BABINGTON, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 15 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Louisiana Sen. David Vitter will probably emerge from seclusion soon and return to Washington to fight for his political career, a colleague of the first-term Republican said Friday.

When Vitter does, he is sure to be confronted with his past remarks about the sanctity of marriage, the importance of fidelity and the need for high ethical standards among office holders.

In a statement last Monday night, Vitter apologized for committing a "very serious sin in my past," acknowledging that his Washington phone number was among those called several years ago by an escort service that prosecutors say was a prostitution operation. Telephone records show that the service called Vitter's number five times from 1999 to 2001, while he was a U.S. House member.

Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., told reporters Friday that, based on e-mail exchanges with Vitter, he expects his colleague to return to the Capitol by Tuesday. Vitter, 46, missed votes on Iraq policy matters on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

18. For better or worse, sex sells.
Personally I don't care what a politician does in their private lives, *UNLESS* it conflicts with their public positions. Vitter's clearly did and I can't wait to see him raked over even more coals. The same goes for any of the other "family values" politicians who have, and I use the word very clearly, preached a certain morality before the House or Senate and who have violated that same morality, even Democrats (though I suspect there are a few more repressed Republicans who need to pay for play than Democrats.

23. Oh yes they can and I am certain they will to a great extent
If it were a Democrat though, it would be twenty four hours a day seven days a week until the Primaries and probably even beyond that. All we will hear from the MSM is it was a Private issue and doesn't effect his policy making..

10. Exactly. Ridicule is worse than any scandal.
If he had just been consorting with prostitutes, he could probably weather the storm.

But he was paying prostitutes to change his dirty diapers. That makes him an object of ridicule.

35. Um... yeah, I kinda noticed that, too...
I'm still back there savoring the perils of ted haggard.

I also still wonder what's in the closet of people like rick sanctimonium and others who were WAY out front proselytizing ad nauseam about "family values" and other such crap.

Remember dan quayle? He's the guy who, in recent history, put the term "family values" on the political map. I will always cherish the memory of Jay Leno's joke about him - after he and bush-I were denied a second term and he had to go home to Indiana and be basically a house-husband while his wife went back to work as a lawyer in Washington, I think it was. Leno said something to the effect of "dan quayle sure made a big stink about single moms. Now he IS one."

At least SOME of them get at least a small serving of comeupppance.

39. And I read on DU that sanctimoaner
is out and about on the circuit saying when a terror attacks happens this summer the Americans will change their mind about this war and we'll all be behind it.

Yeah, I wonder what the hell he thinks he's doing? Funny, a self described "christian" guy is all about killing, lying, and hypocrital pontificating. I think this fascade worked for these satan worshippers for awhile but game's over.

41. That would probably wind up being one of those "be careful what you wish for" things.
sanctimonium says just wait til we get attacked again and then Americans will sure change their minds and all wanna go kick somebody's ass again. I saw that report, also.

The only problem with that is the LONG-RUNNING talking point that will get bombed to smithereens in that same purported terrorist repeat. Perhaps you've even heard it coming out of the mouth of some ill-informed reactionary at work or in the neighborhood or some place: WELL? We HAVEN'T been attacked SINCE 9/11, HAVE WE???? bush must be doing something right, mustn't he??? After all, we HAVEN'T been attacked again!!! Wonder what they'll say when that doesn't work anymore?

Well, I take that back. No wondering at all what they'll say. They'll go back to exhorting the country to go kick somebody's ass again, and all this "WELL? We HAVEN'T been attacked SINCE 9/11, HAVE WE?????" shit will be so much vapor in the wind... "You musta been hearing things!!! I NEVER said THAT!!!" It will be revisionist history once again.

:eyes:

Tiresome, aren't they? And rather pathetic by now, too, I might add.

But having dealt with people...ADULT people...for whom diapers were a daily and necessary fact of life, I just canNOT see where the attraction would lie.

Gotta agree with Spider Robinson on this one...

Vitter's exposé came about under a federal criminal investigation.

Vitter’s weak mia culpa came about after the exposé.

Vitter has admitted to it. Yes, he committed a crime.

I think that your real question is - did Vitter commit even bigger crimes, that are now coming to light as a result of the DC Madam investigation?

27. See, the thing that REALLY pisses me off about this whole deal is that...
...if I were to do something like that, I would be rolled hard, put up wet, and left out to dry. I don't get to say, "I've confessed to my wife, my lord, and that's all I'm going to say about it." They would laugh at me and say, "OK, well I've got something to say about it. 45 days restriction. 45 days extra duty. Reduction in rank to the next inferior paygrade, Half a months pay for 2 months. Process for discharge." Done. Ball game.

32. You didn't think that the rules applied to us little people, did you?
You didn't really believe all those things that Republicans say about morality and doing the right thing and not stealing and abstinence-only and monogamy and all that?

That's just to keep the little people in line. The Republicans get different rules.

I am so fucking tired of these holier than thou hypocritical REPUKE asswipes!

My choice comments on the site mentioned above:

It's not about the "sins" - it's about the REPUKE hypocrisy!

I could care less about anybody's personal sexual escapades - but this TYPICAL REPUKE HYPOCRITE was making a BIG DEAL about HIS and HIS REPUKE PARTY's supposed moral superiority and god knows it's ONLY THE REPUKES WHO INSIST ON HAVING THEIR NOSES IN EVERYONE ELSE'S BEDROOMS!

I don't see ANY Democrats doing this - NONE.

So now that ANOTHER LYING HYPOCRITICAL REPUKE has been literally caught with HIS PANTS DOWN AROUND HIS ANKLES (or should I say "diapers") - NOW - NOW they cry and scream and whimper - "but it's a PRIVATE matter and we shouldn't care about it and leave him alone" yadda yadda yadda. I say BULL!

Nice to see the REPUKES saying that when the subject is a Democrat, huh?
