BAGHDAD (AFP) - Gunmen shot dead an Iraqi translator working for the Reuters news agency's Baghdad bureau, the British company said Saturday.

The translator, whose name Reuters is not releasing according to the wishes of his family, was the third employee of the company to be killed this week and the seventh since the US-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

The 30-year-old was killed on Wednesday along with two of his brothers while driving near the Diyala bridge, a rough neighbourhood in the capital that sees frequent clashes between Sunni and Shiite militants.

"Reuters staff in Baghdad became concerned about their colleague when he did not show for work on Saturday," the company said.
