RENO, Nev. (AP) - New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson opened his northern Nevada headquarters Friday and said the state is a key to his presidential campaign.
"I'm not just to be here for a few hours. I'm going to be here for a few days. I'm not just going to visit Las Vegas and Reno, I'm going to visit Elko, Carson City, Fernley. You're going to see me a lot."
Beginning work on his promise to spend time in Nevada, Richardson's headquarters opening came a day after he squeezed some tomatoes and grabbed a few hands at a farmer's market in neighboring Sparks. After his Reno stop, the Democrat governor flew on to Elko - a bastion of Republicanism.
"It's critically important I show strength in my own region," he said. "It doesn't mean I have to win (Nevada's second-in-the-nation Jan. 19 caucus), but I have to be a major player here.
