Ex-Bush donor hosts Clinton fundraiser (Bush Ranger)
Source: Financial Times

John Mack, Morgan Stanley’s chief executive, is to invite senior staff to a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton on Monday, in a pointed endorsement of the Democratic presidential hopeful from an important backer of President George W. Bush in 2004.

Mrs Clinton, a New York senator, is scheduled to appear at the fundraiser on the 41st floor of Morgan Stanley’s headquarters in Times Square.

The minimum donation for the event is $1,000 (€726, £492) per person but Mr Mack urged those attending to give $4,600, the maximum for the 2008 presidential campaign.

Mr Mack surprised many on Wall Street in the spring when he said he and his wife, Christy, would support Mrs Clinton’s 2008 bid. The announcement was made after heavy courting by Mrs Clinton, who raised $27m in the second quarter.

----

Mr Mack was a “Ranger” for Mr Bush in 2004, meaning he helped raise at least $200,000 for the president’s re-election bid.

Another reason Clinton is not my first choice. I'd vote for her in the general but no way in the primary (and I'm hoping my state legislators in PA will make our primary relevant).

Maybe not a verbatim quote, but I got the gist of it.

We all focus so much on the puppets but very little on the puppetmaster that makes both puppets dance.

2. The maximum is $2,300 for each election period. A primary and general
are considered separate election periods.

They cannot contribute $4,600 all at one time. And the maximum must be recorded for the period received.

3. That's the way "campaigns" are won
especially if you want to be president. Millions upon millions upon millions of dollars from doners who are abandoning Bush now, because, well because his numbers are down in the twenty somethings. Step right up Hillary.

Yup, wannabe a president. Just get those millions upon millions of dollars, and feel real good about yourself winning the "election"

They want to make sure our future Queen does not do anything to change American neoliberal trade policies.

Hillary courts the ruling class, but she ignores the working class while only paying lip service to its concerns.

6. Hilary Promises No Changes...

In the "Set-Up". Corporations will continue to pull the strings of our fascist system that will screw the people, fight illegal wars plus kowtow towards the health insurance, pharmaceutical and banking industries plus the military-industrial complex.

There is nothing in her agenda for working people or the poor except some measly crumbs.

Other than her gender at birth, she is a woman, I don't understand why anyone who is truly a Democrat would support her candidacy.

While she doesn't say that, of course, if she is elected everything will be pretty much the same as it has been recently and we will all be screwed over for sure!

Unless you are very rich...

Remarkable, isn't it, how so many voters will make choices that are inimical(hostile) to their own best interests. Most folks who vote Rethuglican would be in this group.

Are you?

you claim otherwise.

Her agenda is laid out in detailed position papers (health care has a 28 page cost savings paper out now and improve quality of care paper and a change system to universal paper due out in the fall)

What is the policy for "working people or the poor" that you want supported. Does any candidate support that policy?

have all our candidates.

The word "corporatist" you use no doubt refers to the lack of Federal financing for our elections, with corporate and other money banned - and indeed you are correct that under the current system, those that give you money get access - just look at Nader and the GOP for proof of that these days.

What better way to assure a republican win?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mack_the_Knife
snip~ Morgan Stanley CEO John J. Mack once put on a shark costume and sang "Mack the Knife" at a charity event, a feat that reportedly raised $75,000.

Mack the Knife on YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBTITHA8twI

In RE: the shark costume Mack wore ~~ 'And, you know, the thing about a shark... he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be living... until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then... ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin'~~
I'd be careful of this couple if I were you, Hill.

edit to add~ I can not vote for Hillary in any election. I'm looking for a combo of Kucinich , Paul, and Feingold, and I'll write it in if I have too. & Dang gone Gore ain't running.

sidenote: second time I've not been able to get the corrected spelling of Kucinich with the spellcheck on this site.

45. Wall Street prefers a government in which Republican
House and Senate and Democratic President. The Republicans will
get their way on most things but having a Democratic President
slows them down so they do not overreach.

It is amost more important that we elect more Dem. Senators
and Congressmen, than be so darn hung up and putting everything
into the Presidency.

Right now if we had had a unified strong Senate and House
with a an understanding of the importance of TV, we would
be much farther ahead. Even with the tight margin.

47. Here's Mack's campaign contribution history
http://www.newsmeat.com/ceo_political_donations/John_Mack.php

It's a weird list. Tens of thousands of dollars for Republican Party building. A collection of nasty right-wing extremists like Saxby Chamblis and Duncan "Lauch" Faircloth and Phil Gramm. The occasional $1000 thrown to Rahm or Rauh (now of the Reform Party) fits that picture

Then there's the occasional $1000 thrown to a Democrat like Mrazek (who gave up a House seat after many terms to run for Senator (NY), a campaign that fell apart immediately during the primary season) or the donations to Bowles for Senator (NC) -- which I'd count as trying to help throw an election to the Rs, especially since the other NC donations are to nutcase Rs.

Mack's not on our side. I think he's pushing Clinton because he thinks the Rs can clobber her.

Look, I know many people love Hillary here, and that's not being facetious, really there are a bunch of HRC supporters. I'm mildy supportive of her myself, but this wall streeter raising big money for her speaks volumes - he's patting her on the back and smiling while a dagger is showing out of his sleeve, so to speak. they want HRC to run on our side because she CANNOT, WILL NOT, HAS NO CHANCE in Florida, Ohio, Missouri, and will struggle to win Illinois, Wisconsin & Washington - we barely won the governorship out in that one, you think Hillary can garner even 25% of the rural Washington vote? Hardly. My brother and all his coworkers that are moderate dems are already saying they're voting for GIULIANI if she's our candidate.
