Antiwar Ron Paul Rakes in Military Donations?
Quarterly Reports Indicate Paul Raised More From Military Than Other Republicans

Congressman Ron Paul has defined his Republican presidential candidacy with a staunchly critical stance on the Iraq war, saying during the June 5 debate in New Hampshire, for example, that it was a "mistake to go and a mistake to stay."

Paul has often reiterated his views that US security has been worsened by its military presence in Iraq, and that Bush's pre-emptive war doctrine represented one of his administration's greatest moral failings.

One might think such criticism of the war and the Commander-in-Chief's leadership would make Paul a pariah to the military community, however, the latest figures indicate the antiwar Republican is receiving more donations from employees of the US military than any other Republican candidate.

The Presidential campaigns just released their quarterly campaign finance reports, leaving much of the mainstream media remarking on Paul's surge in online donations from his healthy Internet following, though the $2.3 million he raised still has him trailing far behind the front runners.

But a closer look at the reports reveals a less obvious but more remarkable development--the antiwar Republican received more than 50% of the money donated by employees of the US military.

24. No, Paul is against impeachment...
he has said it would be a waste of time and resources and would likely be dragged out for at least a year.

2. I'm not a fan of Ron Paul, but I am a fan of his primary run.
It would be nice if we only had to deal with nutty old conservatives, instead of the bat shit crazy neo-cons.

3. The Repubs are banning him
According to this blog the Repugs are doing whatever it takes to keep him out of their primary. Then ... according to news reports on Hillary and Edwards we've heard similar things from this side.

Isn't this a wonderful and great democratic republic, for the people by the people?

8. PUULEASE.....Let us stay longer
That's the message the Bushies liked to perpetuate that the US military espouses regarding deployments.

Now the MSM prefers to spend their time crushing the non-kool aid drinkers. The MSM prefers institutionalized "group thinking" (i.e. non Paul, non Gravel.)

18. he's a hypocrite
Mr. Anti-war also has bragged about NEVER taking medicare patients. And now to find out he is taking money from military companies? Mr. Anti-War is another typical Republican. Touting himself as a *new* republican, claiming the war is ruining the country - but perfectly willing to take funds from teh companies that are profiteering from it.

:grr:

Here's the web page of the report.

People who list their employer as US Army, US Air Force, US Navy have given him more money then other Republican Candidates.

Want to know another word for people who list their employer as US Army, US Air Force, and US Navy?

Soldier, Airman, Seaman.

7. Anyone know the figures on military support for the Democratic candidates?
I find it very interesting- how the military has voted with their check books.
Perhaps because they recognize the republican most likely to get them
the fuck out of FUBAR world?
Wonder how they are feeling about the democratic candidates...
I'd be interested to know those figures if anyone finds them.

"HON. RON PAUL OF TEXAS
Before the U.S. House of Representatives

April 5, 2006

Iran: The Next Neocon Target

It’s been three years since the U.S. launched its war against Saddam Hussein and his weapons of mass destruction. Of course now almost everybody knows there were no WMDs, and Saddam Hussein posed no threat to the United States. Though some of our soldiers serving in Iraq still believe they are there because Saddam Hussein was involved in 9/11, even the administration now acknowledges there was no connection. Indeed, no one can be absolutely certain why we invaded Iraq. The current excuse, also given for staying in Iraq, is to make it a democratic state, friendly to the United States. There are now fewer denials that securing oil supplies played a significant role in our decision to go into Iraq and stay there. That certainly would explain why U.S. taxpayers are paying such a price to build and maintain numerous huge, permanent military bases in Iraq. They’re also funding a new billion dollar embassy- the largest in the world.

The significant question we must ask ourselves is: What have we learned from three years in Iraq? With plans now being laid for regime change in Iran, it appears we have learned absolutely nothing. There still are plenty of administration officials who daily paint a rosy picture of the Iraq we have created. But I wonder: If the past three years were nothing more than a bad dream, and our nation suddenly awakened, how many would, for national security reasons, urge the same invasion? Would we instead give a gigantic sigh of relief that it was only a bad dream, that we need not relive the three-year nightmare of death, destruction, chaos and stupendous consumption of tax dollars. Conceivably we would still see oil prices under $30 a barrel, and most importantly, 20,000 severe U.S. causalities would not have occurred. My guess is that 99% of all Americans would be thankful it was only a bad dream, and would never support the invasion knowing what we know today.

Even with the horrible results of the past three years, Congress is abuzz with plans to change the Iranian government. There is little resistance to the rising clamor for “democratizing” Iran, even though their current president, Mahmoud Almadinejad, is an elected leader. Though Iran is hardly a perfect democracy, its system is far superior to most of our Arab allies about which we never complain. Already the coordinating propaganda has galvanized the American people against Iran for the supposed threat it poses to us with weapons of mass destruction that are no more present than those Saddam Hussein was alleged to have had. It’s amazing how soon after being thoroughly discredited over the charges levied against Saddam Hussein the Neo-cons are willing to use the same arguments against Iran. It’s frightening to see how easily Congress, the media, and the people accept many of the same arguments against Iran that were used to justify an invasion of Iraq."

I know many on DU don't llike Paul, but frankly, I agree with much of what he
has the courage to say.

13. Cojones....WTF are they?
Coming from a lifelong Democrat this might sound odd. But the only one I see with really and truly big balls in this race (other than DK) is Ron Paul who voted against his own party and the Iraq War, when most were groveling at Bush's feet, and afraid of voting against anything that Bush proposed. I truly respect that.

Again I also respect Dennis K and Osama for the same reasons. They are all men of true insight and opinion.

OK I don't agree with RP on many issues. But I want a candidate that has both foresight and guts of conviction and most importantly the guts to oppose the moneyed interests.

It's a long way off to the election and I won't commit to my candidate of choice. I'm concerned about Obamas experience. But I'd really to see Gore run with DK as VP.

Kucinich?
He is the only dem making the same points as Paul.
As far as I can discern, the others appear to be all for "never ending war."
