FDA Spending Millions on Bonuses
Source: AP via KLTV (Texas)

The Food and Drug Administration is taking heat for giving employees some sizeable bonuses while Congress presses it to spend more on food and drug safety.

The agency is awarding workers more than eight million dollars in retention bonuses to keep the workers from leaving for the private sector. The extra money works out to at least $5,000 per employee, triple what the FDA paid in 2002 and more than any other federal agency offers.

1. Poppy Bush brought this "bonus" idea into government . . .
And I don't think the FDA is the only agency/dept where this is going on -- ???????????

Anyone adding up the bonuses -- ????????

Btw, Congress just voted itself another $4,400 per annum -- !!!!

I would suggest that the people have to have control over the purse -- somehow!!!

2. Universal Healthcare (Bonuses?)
Since FDA drug safety has been particularly poor of late, this story is downright deadly!

3. Is this for political appointees or career scientists?
The AP article I read indicated that it is going mostlyy to medical officers. Assuming those are career scientists, not political appointees, I have no problem. The budget of the agency shouldn't depend upon low-balling the salaries of the career scientists (like at EPA).

If it's political appointees, it sucks.

4. Isn't everybody serving under the Bush flag a political appointee?
I'm sure not, but it does make you wonder...

5. I am guessing this is just a way for the Loyal Bushies to spread payola
Loyal Bushie = $4,000

Loyal American = So sorry, no bonus for you. You don't seem to like it here. Perhaps you should look for another job.

This is just one tiny aspect a a multipronged, multifarious assault on the American People and our system of government.
