Bush critics receive additional charge in criminal case
Source: Chicago Suburban News

Wheaton, IL -

Two DuPage County residents who were charged in May for disorderly conduct after hanging a protest banner on a bridge above the I-355 tollway now are facing additional misdemeanor charges of reckless conduct and unauthorized display of a sign on a highway.

(snip)

Jeff Zurawski, 39, of Downers Grove and Sara Hartfield, 45, of Naperville posted a 12-by-4-foot sign calling for President Bush’s impeachment on a bridge over the tollway May 6 along with an upside-down U.S. flag. Police received reports that rocks were being hurled onto cars below — reports which Zurawski has denied.

The banner read: “IMPEACH Bush and Cheney — LIARS.” Flying the flag upside down, a traditional symbol for distress, was meant to represent their concern about the state of national politics.

Although one of the charges — unauthorized display of a sign on a highway — stems directly from displaying the banner and flag, Darrah said the inherent political message was not a motivation for the additional count.

5. Some Freeper-types probably called in with the lie, and are most gratified
I am sure, to have seen their fiction now accepted now charging the people with their fiction.

One wonders, though, if it will be thoroughly debunked in court, which isnot yet full Bushified at the local levels so relatively blind justice may still yet be done, which means the rock-throwing charge will likely be tossed for lack of evidence or credible witnesses.

I say this knowing only what i have read, but also knowing the Right-Wing Authoritarian Mindset.

6. if they are found to have not thrown rocks
Whoever claimed they were throwing rocks should immediately be charged with filing a false police report. I've seen too many of these power-trip jerks lie to the police in order to get an opponent in trouble with the law. The protesters should also file a civil law suit against whoever reported them. Hit the conservatives in the thing they care most about: their pocketbooks.

8. You know how the "law" is in Imperial Amerika. Bushie Comrades almost always go free.
Why, when a judge realizes the deeply moral and patriotic motives our Freeper friends were acting from when they filed their false police report, they will realize that the greater good was in further harrassing Enemies of the State who defy the Leader, rather than the false police report they filed to achieve these noble aims, the crimes will be viwed by all as badges of honor, and the false-police-report-filers will go free.

We have all seen it happened dozens of times in Bushmerika since the takeover.

And once again, there rest of the monstrous Right-Wing Authoritarian Follwoers will take special note of how more Loyal Bushie Comrades committed crimes (filing false ploice reports) and got away with it. Hell, it won't even get bvefore a judge! Oh, the charges of rock-throwing will be dismissed for lack of evidence but does anybody think the Loyal Bushie Comrades who made the false reports will be investigated, let alone prosecuted?

I am sorry, thing are too far gone in Imperial Ameika to expect those Freepers o fce anything approximating justice for their crime of filing a false police report.

9. If it turns out that "Welcome home John!" banners are tolerated, these guys will walk.
If it turns out that "Welcome home John!" banners are tolerated,
these guys will walk. Our local PD had a rough time when they
arrested a young woman for putting up a political banner while
the PD routinely tolerated the pro-troop banners. She eventually
caved in and pled to some minor charge, but it wasn't going well
for the coppers.

Meanwhile, down in Mass, this issue forced the Mass Highway
Department to prolaim that they were going to start taking
down *ALL* non-official signs of all types. They haven't
done it, of course, but at least that's now the official
policy.
